Notes:
  • Boldness is an AI personality modifier that affects (among others) how likely it is to be cowed by Dread, and how likely they are to enter factions.
  • War Chance and Cooldown affect AI willingness to start wars, and how often they will consider doing so. These modifiers should both make the AI declare more wars on the player and grow faster when they have the means to.

Guide to making a personal version:
  1. Open the CK3 launcher, click "All installed mods" on the left, then "Mod Tools" in the top right. Click "create mod", choose a name, put anything for version, and choose a folder name.
  2. Go to "Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III\mod".
  3. Go through each ".mod" file (just open them in a notepad) until you find the one that says name="Hard Difficulties".
  4. Go to the address in that file, next to the 'path='. It will look something like "...\steamapps\workshop\content\<number>\<number>".
  5. Copy everything in that folder, except the ".mod" file.
  6. Go back to the 'mod' folder from 2) and into the folder with the name you chose in step 1), then paste.
  7. From there you can open "common\modifiers\hard_difficulties_modifiers.txt" and tweak all the modifiers in any way you want! Remember to disable this mod in "playsets" in the launcher so it doesn't conflict with the new one you made.

Obsolete for now, with the introduction of difficulty in the base game. I may update with higher difficulty if I find the new stuff to be too lenient.

Hello, I was wondering if this mod still works.:steammocking:

@TheMuyu you have to start a new game, since the difficulty is chosen along with the other game options at the start.

Is this usable on current save or has to be start new game?

Oh alright. Well, you're best shot at compatibility is probably to remove the more minor stuff from this mod in common: 'character_interactions', 'schemes' and/or 'traits'. The other files are just additive. Good luck (:

Sorry, should have mentioned, I'm on the ATE dev team so I'm using the unreleased updated version of the mod (which is making good progress on public release)

@TomTheMedic After The End hasn't been updated for 1.13 or 1.14 yet. If you are rolling back to 1.12 this mod probably won't function.

I am having an issue where, besides domain limit modifiers, none of the difficulty modifiers are applying to my game. Additionally, I am unable to select the Extreme difficulty from the regular menu, and I can only select it if I use an old save of my gamerules settings, although the effects no longer apply. I do play with other mods, namely After the End, but I have been using your mod for about a year now with no major issues, until just recently. I'm not sure what the problem might be, even after digging around in the code, so I wanted to ask for your help and see if you might have any insight on what I might need to do in order to play your mod again. Thank you.

@luqfire2016 I don't get that problem on my end. It could be a mod compatibility issue, but honestly I don't know how that would happen in that specific way. You could try starting a new game with only this mod enabled, and see if the same thing happen.

Did you get rid of the health debuff? It's not showing up in the difficulty modifiers or when I hover over the health icon. Might be an error on my end, but it was my favorite feature from the mod
