Shadowgate

Description
Mirror Downloads (Current and Legacy Versions): Here[rentry.co]

Welcome! This is a galactic travel mod that introduces a luxurious way to traverse vast distances with your ships. Shadowgates are a new planet type that essentially open wormholes inside systems of your choice.

Each installation is treacherous, volatile, and slow-functioning. While not entirely necessary, restoring them will unlock various functionalities and improve upon existing ones.

  • The galaxy now contains anywhere from two to five dilapidated shadowgates, scaling with galaxy size.
  • Each eldritch gateway uses its own ether to summon portals around almost any discovered star, all through a user interface.
  • Installations differ from one another based on ether reserves, districts restored, compass configurations, and rift fortifications.
  • Shadowrifts are attackable, even without a declaration of war. Please choose your destinations wisely.
  • Rudimentary AI support means you're never the only one using the mod's features. Beware!
  • The Ashen Pilgrimage is a new faction that permits usage of their own installation, welcoming all but the most heinous of patrons.

I'm spoiling too much! There's more to discover as you play and explore.

This mod is incompatible with existing saves and achievements.

Compatibility Patches:
Shadowgate and Frameworld Compatibility
Shadowgate and Real Space: System Scale Compatibility

The compatibility patches above are updated with every new version of the game, but sometimes they stop working between versions. Please let me know if that happens.

Other compatibility patches, rebalancing, and any modifications are all welcome, so long as this mod is made a dependency.
Use this[ln5.sync.com] instead of editing the a, b, c, d, or e event files individually. It will require AutoHotkey[www.autohotkey.com].

Other Patches:
Simple Chinese Localization - Thank you, 卡尔文迪斯梅特!

Example Load Order:
  • <<Other Mods>>
  • <<Shadowgate>>
  • <<Other Mods>>
  • The Merger of Rules - A wonderful and comprehensive patch for inter-mod compatibility. Recommended when using multiple mods together. Thank you to its author, Inny!

Incompatibilities:
  • A patch is needed for mods that add custom playable country_types (ZoFE, etc).

Everything else is implicitly compatible. Please let me know of any conflicting mods, and I will look into making reasonable accomodations to the best of my ability.

  • Preemptive rift casting is encouraged, for shadowrifts are not quick to stabilize.
  • Cast your rifts carefully. As a general rule, anything hostile will attempt to violently destabilize your rifts.
  • Shadowgates and their rifts cannot withstand bombardment or assault for long. Guard them well!
  • Rift fortifications last indefinitely and never diminish, even after violent destabilizations. Conversely, ruinous potency doesn't decrease when exposed.
  • The Ashen Pilgrimage holds all summoners to account! Extra caution is advised when utilizing their temple.
  • You can repeatedly tap the Esc button on your keyboard to swiftly exit the mainframe menus.
  • Clicking on the country flag of an attackable rift (beside its fleet power) directly opens the corresponding shadowgate mainframe if you're its owner.

Performance:
  • There may or may not be some script taboo at work within this mod. : - )
  • This mod is somewhat slow natured. Despite this, there is a slight performance hit, which is something I am hoping to improve in the future.

Bugs:
  • While the mod's main features seem robust, issues may arise that I haven't encountered. Please kindly let me know if you happen upon any.
  • There are a few seemingly harmless entries that routinely appear in the error log.

Balance:
  • This mod is made with vanilla gameplay in mind.
  • Shadowgates and remnant systems are scattered across the galaxy at random, so finding one is never guaranteed.
  • The AI is directed to attack shadowrifts under proper conditions, but I've had mixed results in the past with this.
  • The Ashen Pilgrimage enables almost all empires to make use of a public shadowgate, so don't despair if you can't find one of your own.

Finally, thank you for reading. I hope you try the mod - I couldn't have imagined it turning out this way when I started, and I had a lot of fun making it.

This[ln4.sync.com] is a link to download the mod's music.

Special thanks to Velaroz for the abundance of valuable feedback!

Good luck, and enjoy.

If you want, here's a guide [rentry.co] to resetting an installation's rifts with console. Enjoy!

Hello. : - ) Thanks for the report, I can't believe I missed something as bad as this! Sorry about that. It's fixed now, but unfortunately you'll have to re-summon any active shadowrifts for the fix to take effect on your save file.

The issue was the shadowrift megastructures (the ones your ships enter) were briefly claiming ownership of the planets they were tied to whenever they spawned. It not only happened on loading a save, but also each time a rift opened for navigation. Really strange bug, but thanks again for letting me know. Hope you enjoy.

looks like the bug doesn't occur if there's dimensional feedback

hii thank you so much for the 4.0 update I love this mod. quick bug report, whenever you load a game shadowgates are occupied by the shadowgate empire for 1 day which clears the build queue. makes it really hard to build. happened on previous vers too

Hello. There's a significant incompatibility with an easy fix. I'll request that Shrouded Regions' mod author add in the appropriate flags. If you want to modify it yourself for compatibility in the meantime, here's a guide [rentry.co].

How compatible is this mod with Shrouded Regions ?
Nardelus  [author] 29 May @ 3:44pm
Hello, sorry to hear that. To try and fix it, you can select the shadowgate ingame, open the console (with ~), and then enter: effect set_planet_flag = shadowgate_d_compass_unlocked

Please let me know if that solves the issue. If not, I may need a screenshot if you're willing to post one. Did you happen to build the districts yourself, or did you acquire the shadowgate fully restored from an AI empire? I did find an instance where the compass can remain disabled if an AI builds every district.
