And yes, as of a few game updates ago, they added the ability to add a "local" custom shell to things, so an ammo controller is not explicitly required anymore.
several vanilla Simple weapons specify "Eff. Range [m]" or "Maximum range [m]".
Q: Is there an Effective Range or Maximum Range for the turrets this adds? If so, what are they?

Playing around with these, it seem we can set up custom shell in settings separate from the APS ammo controller. But it also seems that - if we want - we can have the turret select custom shells from APS ammo controllers. So... we don't really need to have an APS ammo controller to use the custom shells we set up within said turrets?
