I messaged you my concerns directly. I'll think of a different solution to get the best tram network possible :3

@Nirahiel I don't remember exactly how the algorithm works. The mod was created 4 years ago.

Presumably, the principle of operation is that when an elevator is called, the request goes through all the intersections and tells them where to turn in order to reach the desired location, until it reaches the stop where the elevator is located. Therefore, in theory, any method of building intersections should work.

The mod has not been extensively tested, so the idea and implementation may not be accurate. Surprisingly, the source code is still available, and I can send it to you. I've sent a friend request.

So, U turns ?
Also, where it should turn.. So if my intersections are a bit weird .. (Like the way "south" leads to a stop that's actually to the left, and the way "east" leads to a station that's actually to the south, like in here : https://i.imgur.com/FQuirI5.png ) will the algo figure it out ?

I'm curious to see the source code of that algo. Knowing exactly what it does might help me design my stations better.
Or I could just go with complicated wiring and such.

@Nirahiel There is a small algorithm that determines where the elevator should turn. You don't need to connect anything special. J-shaped bends are when the elevator turns twice in one direction. It starts going back, but along a different path. In theory, this should work too.

How does it work on a technical level ?
Do you need to wire them in a specific way ?

What are j bends ?

I would like j bends

@p_trevogin, Yes, that is right. The tram will turn in the direction relative to which the next stop on the way to the button is located. Therefore it will not work with J-bends. But I didn't need those. If there is a strong need, I will make additional stops with 4 connections of the form X and +, where using the connections it will be possible to explicitly indicate the direction of movement.

So, what you are saying is that we no longer need to make complicated contraptions with tons of wiring to simply summon an elevator from top/bottom floors to "sideways" floors, and just start using this mod?
