Neah Bay

Description
Mapping attempt number 2!

Using a height map of the very Northwest tip of the Washington Olympic Peninsula, Neah Bay is a mountainous wilderness along the Pacific coast. The map isn't a majorly accurate recreation, but the general landmass shape is the same, mainly water features are different. I've spent the better part of a week working on this and I think I'm pretty happy with where it is.

This is a limited build space Map, ideal for a small town or a very cramped big city. There's a Highway and Rail connection, along with a Shipping lane winding along the coastline. No Air connection. I tried my best to make it as vanilla as possible, which means vanilla trees and bushes which people may hate, but then again most people Mod the game anyway and I'm sure many have a tree replacer, or you can just replace the forests by hand if you want to. The only things you will need to have is the Mass Transit DLC for the Highway, and 81 Tiles to make full use of the map's build area. Tree count came in around 130,000-ish, so no need for Unlimited Trees! The mod is still nice to have though.

Map Theme Used: Cedar Valley 4k

Map sports several water features, which includes three rivers, four lakes though only one is deep enough to be suitable for water pumps, and several creeks mainly for decor. I tried to give the ocean some flow to help people who use sewage drains, but my attempt barely had any result, so it'd be safer just to use sewage treatment assets.

Note: I used Quays as sort of retaining walls under the highway ramps in the starter tile, as well as the foundation for one side of the Highway bridges. In test I noticed they clipped into the roads while in the editor they didn't. I went and lowered them a bit more but if they still clip in your game you can just use the Move It mod to lower them more. Or get rid of them, they're just for decoration.

Here's an image of my personal city on the map to give an idea what can be done.

I'm sure it's a great map, now. Unfortunately, BonbonB quite never review the same map twice...

I wasn't happy with the start square junction and the highway bridge over the river, so I went in, did some more fine tuning/redecorating, added another new bit and now I think the map is at a good spot, after four revisions/fixes.

At least now it's come a bit of a ways from the version BonbonB reviewed, taking his notes to heart.

Hi!
Your map has been reviewed by BonbonB here :

I gave it high ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

About the trees on the railway, it's a problem girth the mod Tree Anarchy when it's on by default. If you don't have it or if it's turn off by default, you won't see anything.

Mikmoen, thanks for the update. I will be starting a new city in the next couple days using your map. I will let you know how it goes.

Based on BonBon's review I tried cleaning up some of the pointed out mistakes. The biggest one being all the bushes clipping onto the railway. It's odd, even though when I load the map into a new game the bushes stay hidden, even though they are there. Even so I ran the brush over the line to try and remove them anyway.

Also worked on some other tweaks. And the shipping lane especially. I made that little island after putting the lane down which is why I missed it the first time. Ships should no longer beach themselves.

@PYRO Glad I could satisfy an itch! I'm looking forward to making more PNW inspired maps in the future, already working on one centered around a Lake here.

Also already regretting an oops on my part, since I had either not known, or completely forgotten that some Vanilla trees were Environment specific, and the Wild Conifers, which would have looked much better than the Redwoods, aren't available on Temperate maps.

Right on, I live in WA and have been out there many times. This will be a fun one. Thanks for the creation.
