Space Springhares, also known by their scientific name Pedetes Inanis, are a herbivorous species of hopping rodent evolved to live between the stars. The species does not survive well on planets long-term, though some groups still try to (or are forced to) settle on them for various reasons. Despite being a small species due to their rodent nature they none the less sometimes join groups of other species, even ones once considered natural predators.


Features:

-Springhares are smaller, lighter and springier creatures that are eager to please. Thus they are rather good with accuracy based weapons and hit-and-run tactics, though fare very poorly in melee combat. Be careful if they get in social fights with a larger species!

-Three Scenarios for the hoppers. A standard start falling from crashed narrowboats, a start playing as a group of planet-based wandering Springhares, and an oddball adventure with a large group of rather helpless rodents crashing to the surface from their ruined habitat!

-A storyteller to guide you along your path. Camomile is a rather relaxed storyteller.

-Two factions. Your normal Springhare folk living their lives and trading with other species, and the Springhare Sections: Loosely allied groups of armed Springhares who typically act as highly loyal hired security for folk wanting to have protection for themselves, their ship... or to look after areas of interest on planets.

-Springhare weapons based on Bonewood China, the main technology the species use.


To do:

- Investigate if Bonewood China should be used within this mod, or added as separate mod.
- Create custom Springhare lore-friendly clothing/armour
- Create Springhare planet adaptation progressive condition (Probably medical condition affecting stats/mood based on reverse cabin fever)
- Create Springhare skull and desiccated tail resources.


Built upon the Humanoid Alien Races 2.0 mod. Put this mod below it in the mod order list (Should auto-sort).

All Space Springhare artwork and graphics were commissioned from Timor and/or GreedyGulo, or made by Tea Spot.

Latest Update:

Looks like the gap between the editing and updating of the mod allowed a pretty big "oopsie" in (or three it turns out), causing massive issues for saved games, to the extent of game breaking.
I am so very sorry about that. In theory this should now be fixed and saved games should work without problems, please do let me know if anything still gives red or yellow errors... or acts in ways you thing are wrong!

Just a little note/update while I have a few seconds access to steam: The laptop I use to access steam and make mods has physicaly faen apart. As such I cannot work on mods, and have no idea when I will be able to again. I'm so sorry eveyone :/

Still working on the rebuild of this mod, but currently deadlocked through to small rodent brain not working correctly. In theory it only needs a couple minor fixes to work as initially intended.

@Oats: Thank you for your kind words! I had hoped to have had the mod remade by now, but annoyingly enough a couple weeks ago my monitor died. Got the replacement parts today, hopefully shouldn't be too much longer a wait!

It's the first mod I got for Rimworld, my colonies don't feel the same without the Springhares ^^

Hope to eventually see a return, but there's no rush from me :steamthumbsup:

The Big S A D: As of right now.. .working on it! I've only just had the time to get back into anything aside work (I miss rimworld D: ). Between the 1.4 update and new plans for my Rimworld Mods, I have to admit I'll likely be moving to a new mod with updated/new code and new pathing. It's going to be a pretty large change.

Oats: You've brightened my day with this ;3; I've just started looking at the 1.4 changes and what I'll need to do... and honestly it looks like the entire mod will need to be more or less rewritten to make it good for the next while. Between that and some more mods I was working on before life pulled me away (such as the feral-species Grimalkin mod that was 95% done), I'll be releasing as a new mod later alongside others using similar coding for ease int he future. Watch this space I guess!

@Sir NutNut: So glad the issue got worked out, I'd have been rather stumped!

@Sabrael324: Good catch! I'll be reworking the mod pretty soon, and between this comment plaguing my mind and a couple others.. as well as some plans being hatched... I'll be playing it safe and shunting off the Bonewood aspects from this mod for now, with the intent of making a more dedicated Aniplantae and Bonewood standalone mod. I guess watch this space...

toradrow777: Currently I do not have any plans for CE compatibility due to time and effort constraints. I need to put a lot of work back into this and a couple other mods... once they're sorted out I'll check.

Parow: The Bonewood sciences currently require a Springhare for the know how to work such projects. This will change in the future though, I'm currently stripping bonewood tech from this mod to add to a dedicated one with the Aniplantae they come from. My apologies!
