Description
This is V1 of my terrains for AoM.

(It's part 2 of 2 for steam has a limit of 100mb per mod. And while AoE2 FE had 29 images for all it's terrains, this mod contains 720 files (4-5 per terrain).
I reduced most terrains from 512x512 pixel to 256 or even 128 where the tilling effect wasn't too obvious, but the mod still has 170mb in uncompressed state now.
Part 2 contains all terrain images starting with J-Z.)


A lot of the terrains are made by using my AoE2 terrains, but as there are much more different terrains in AoM than in AoE, a lot of them are further edited, merged, from different packs I did or completelly new.

This mod changes all land terrains - even the ones not usable in the scenario editor for now. So if these should become available in the future, they are already supported.

As you may notice, the terrains in AoM have some nice new effects. This is pretty cool as snow piles on snow mix terrains can have a real 3d look now for example.
But this effect is a bit tricky. All the elevations a terrain can show this way are mostly shown by light and shadow.
Depending on the maps rotation, your angle of view, the actual zoom level and the other colors present on the screen, these elevations can 'change'.

Additional the different global light settings (there are around 20) have a pretty different impact on the different terrain layers (nromal map, gloss and so on). I tried to do terrains in a way they look good with most of them, but you will encounter some combinations that don't look that good. Beside this the used global lighting too changes the height impression of the terrains for it changes where and how shadows and light are applied on them.

So you may encounter the fact that sometimes (even on the same map in different ways at the same time) the shown heights 'change' and a higher terrain does look lower than the surrounding for some time. This optical illusion can only be minimized by less use of the new effects.
I decided to keep the new effects.

As you can see, all terrains are more pixelated than units and buildings. The is due to the way AoM applies the textures to the map/world. I can't (or at least don't know how) change this. So I recommend to zoom out as far as needed to get the best look for the terrain as well as units not too small to actually handle your empire.

Aber leider haben sie es noch immer nicht geschafft den ingame mod manager komplett fertigzustellen (sondrn arbeiten stattdessen lieber daran ihn in RoN zu implementieren...) - und Xml-Datei Mods werden noch immer nicht offziell unterstützt, was mögliche Mods massiv einschränkt. Sieht man auch an der Menge/Aktivität der Mods... :(

Ja, bin damals eingeladen worden an der Beta teilzunehmen um schonmal an Terrains arbeiten zu können.

Und ich werde (wenn ich wieder mehr Zeit habe) auch an Terrains für Rise of Natiions arbeiten.

AoM ist momentan 'etwas' eingeschlafen, die noch immer exisatierenden Probleme mit dem internen Mod Manager und den gesperrten xml Dateien (über die man z.B. ganz neue Terrains implementieren könnte) haben dafür gesorgt das ich hier ersteinmal nciht noch mehr Energie investiert habe (abgesehen von direkten Anfragen zu Terrainalternativen).

One guess - you played with the atlanteans, right?

This is their default feature - they create a special green grass type around their buildings (because they are so nature bond) - on sandy ground with some sand in it,and snowon snow terrains.
This special grass is also more saturated/dark in thed efault terrains.

So if I'm right and you do like the rest of my terrains, could you try the same with the default terrains and give me another feedback of what changes you would like to see on this special grass? :D:
