insectoids

Description
Adds a new Class, the Insectoid Queen.

She uses the nutrients gained from the blood of living beings to birth more of her kind.

Insectoid Queen - Queens spawn the troopers, males and females for the Nest. She is at the head of the Nest hierarchy. Although the transformation from female renders her immobile, queen's powerful magical abilities make her a dangerous opponent on the battlefield.

Insectoid Drone - Drone is the basic unit in the Nest hierarchy. Natural foragers, they leave land completely barren as they pass.

Insectoid Female - Females provide sentience and leadership to the Nests. When finding a place for a new colony the female transforms itself into a breeder queen spawning hordes of Insectoid defenders.

Insectoid Male - Male's function in the Nest is to inseminate females but also to act as scouts for the race. Thats why they are born with wings.

Insectoid Soldier - Nest soldiers, more powerful than the drones, are the main defenders of the Nest. As opposed to other Insectoids they are armed with long spears as well as their natural weapons. Their body is covered with poisonous spikes making them deadly in close combat.

Insectoid Protector - Protector is the ranged unit of the Hive. His weapon is a deadly poison sprayed at the opponents from the glands in his body.

Insectoid Hiver - As opposed to drones, the basic unit of the Hive, the hiver, is built for combat. He is lighter, faster and better armored than his counterpart in the Nests.

Insectoid Knight - The Insectoid Knight is a gestalt stress response stemming from combat with more heavily armed and armored enemies. Instead of feeble spears and poisonous spikes, the Insectoid Knights chitinous exoskeleton hardens to the point of being as durable as steel. This strange mutation seems to have carried over to their weapon also. And further more, a brilliant, shiny shield carapace is carried for further protection.

Insectoid Demolisher - The Demolisher scuttles over the battlground, spraying corrosive acid toward its enemies, melting and burning all in its path. Its attacks are so strong that no known substance can last long against its baleful burns. Unlike the Protector, the Demolisher is both more armored and more durable, able to plant itself into position and siege from greater range.

Insectoid Swarm - Composed of many individuals, Swarms acts as a single organism, covering their target and stinging it to death. As with most Insectoids their bodies produce mild poison. They make for great scouts, searching distant lands for prey and resources and relaying that information back to the hives.

Insectoid Infiltrator - Sensing the need for a more subtle approach, the Insectoid hivemind created a specialist spawn. The Insectoid Infiltrators are the result of this desire. They are cunning and highly intelligent, with an innate ability to magically manipulate not only the very terrain of their environment, but also the minds of their foes. They are well suited for blending in with other species, small and clever enough to hide their more extreme insectoid features.

By default, Insectoid Queens will spawn an Insectoid Drone every month.

The mod probably still needs a lot of balance work done on it. Please leave feedback, thank you.

The class feels unfinished. There are no descriptions for any of the "rituals" and all of them are about summoning a specific unit. The only other ritual in the game is to transform a female into a queen, rendering her immobile and making her produce a drone per turn. But the ritual can be cast anywhere, in a random plain tile even. All of this results in the class' gameplay feeling generic and without a prupose.

The sprites are nice and the effort is there but it needs to be fleshed out properly.

I have played the mid for a bit and i have really enjoyed it so far.

the only thing i'd like to see changed is the positioning of the insects as currently most have mid for melee and back for ranged as opposed to front for melee, mid for ranged and back for commanders/familiars.

The issues this arrangement can cause if for instance in the placement of females which really shouldn't be frontline with drones

I don't know if this has been mentioned, and I don't know if you meant to do this or it was a mistake. But the Demolisher sprays piercing that turns into poison, not acid.

The bakemono come from the mountain stronghold tile as recruitment options.

Played for an hour or two, enjoyed it. I had a massive surplus of gold to spend and couldnt get rid of it fast enough. Also why bakemono units?

Gave it a try, and it looks like it's been fixed! At least so far as we've noticed. Great job Commisar!

I decided I wasn't too lazy to put out a patch for debugging purposes tonight. Anyone who previously had what seemed to be compatibility issues prior to this post, I'd like feedback as to whether or not the forced load order had a positive, negative, or no effect on the issues.

As for my part: I've no earthly clue what's been causing the weirdness I've been seeing in terms of compatibility, and multiplayer in particular. I suspect my own special brand of idiocy, but I also suspect the program that I am modding because compatibility seems to be a common complaint on the workshop.

I don't use anything that requires offsets. I avoid new ritpows as much as is possible (in fact, I've only restorted to them once), and I make sure that any unit that is supposed to be accessible is only accessible by controllable means (deleting and rewriting those means in the case of recruitment).

I'm currently hoping that when I finish every class and take the time to wrap everything up into a single mod the compatibility issues will disappear by setting priority 1, but I have my doubts. I actually should test sometime to see if compatibility issues disappear if priority is forced on one or more mods.

I'll have a quick look and see if the update did anything to mess with the mod. Last time all the weapons had their int set to 0 and their range set to 0, haha.

Do you also have the dwarf overhaul mod active? I've noticed a serious level of incompatibility between mods, most notably when playing online over direct connect. Not sure if it's partially due to load order, but one of my usual comrades and I both had the same mods, all of his trinket chests he made with the dwarf queen looked like lake troll princes to me. (Both commissar fuklaw's mods.) Not sure if it's related to this issue, or the recent patch. Just figured I'd mention it in case.
