Awesome Jumpdrive SFX v1.01

Description
NOTE: Using this mod you'll also be able to tell whether other ships around you are jumping in or out, pretty useful! :P (Check the enhanced version for improved sound effects)

INTRODUCTION:
I got so sick of the vanilla jumpdrive sounds that I decided to create my own. The task was a bit harder than anticipated but here it is, finally!!!!
Awesome_jumpdrive_sfx replaces the vanilla jumpdrive activation and deactivation sounds of XL and L ships (the only ones that have jumpdrives) with awesome sounds created by me. Can you identify the sources of those sounds? LOL, I bet you can't!
My custom jumpdrive sounds are a combination of 3 different sources: an American M1 Abrams tank starting up + the hyperspace jump blast of the Ebon Hawk from KOTOR2 + the warp jump residual sound of the Enterprise in "Star Trek: Into Darkness"
I'm telling you right now that the resulting sounds are awesome, far better than the vanilla ones. I like the jumpdrive activation sound the best, but the jumpdrive deactivation one isn't bad, it's still better than the vanilla one, imho.

COMPATIBILITY:
Obviously, this mod isn't compatible with other sound mods that change jumpdrive sounds, but it should be compatible with all the rest.
I've tested it with X:Rebirth 2.0 and it works fine, I've also tested this with version 3.0 and it works too.
The only thing that I've noticed is that jumprive sounds are muffled when on board a capital ship, also, jumpdrive sounds don't play when using external view, but that's surely a problem within X:Rebirth itself.

Note: If you are forced to disable other sound mods in order to use this one and, as a consequence, your savegames become incompatible, DON'T PANIC!!! This mod is innocent!!!! lol. Everything is fine, you just need to delete the references from the sound mod(s) you just disabled before using my mod with your savegames. How can you do this? Very easy and fast, just download the " XRSGE" (if you haven't done it already), and load your chosen savegame with it, then go to the "Mods" tab and you'll see the mod(s) you just disabled in the list. After that, just select the disabled mod(s) in the list and hit the "Remove Mod" button to the right, then save the changes (File>Save) and you'll be set.
You won't need to do all this when you disable awesome_jumpdrive_sfx because it's well designed, LOL.

Here is the link to the Egosoft forum post where you can download XRSGE:

Enjoy this mod!

KNOWN BUGS:
I've found a couple of bugs related to jumpdrive sounds which are inherent to X:Rebirth.
The first one shortens the duration of the jumpdrive activation sounds AFTER the player has taken a "jumpride" onboard a controlled capital ship.
The second one keeps jumpdrives silent if the player was too far when those jumpdrives were activated... this means that when you get to "hearing" distance from a ship that's jumping, you won't hear a thing because the jumpdrive sound was never triggered in the first place (you were too far when that jump started).
The same thing happens when using external view.
These bugs are present in the vanilla game, they aren't caused by Awesome_jumpdrive_sfx.

Hi karolgoc.

Unfortunately I don't know how to do that, this is just a sound mod.
The current jump FX can't look ugly because it doesn't add any visual effect to the game, it only modifies a couple of wav files responsible for jumpdrive sounds.

What you see is just the vanilla effect that the people at Egosoft went for...it's definitely lame, I agree, but it has nothing to do with this mod.

You could ask another modder with experience in visual effects for X:Rebirth, I'd be happy to collaborate with another modder, but I can't do this on my own, sorry.

I wonder if it would be possible to improve jump FX so that it would be seen as a flash of light, when sitting in the hangar bay of the ship? The current jump FX looks very ugly when you sit inside- you hear jump sound and then it's just background change. The flash of light for 1 or 2 seconds would allow to mask the teleportation and background change.

LOL, yep, I've played a lot of SoSE.
Unfortunately, those phase jump effects are too simple and much shorter than 23 seconds (that's the jumpdrive activation time in XRebirth). I could stretch those waves to 23 seconds, but then the pitch would go down and the sound would be very ugly.
I'm happy with the current modified M1 Abrams turbine sound...

Thanks!
Erazil, I've just posted an enhanced version of this mod at nexus:
http://www.nexusmods.com/xrebirth/mods/389/?

I've added new sounds, I've doubled the volume values and I've increased the range of the sound. Anyway, Rahanas ships are too long, that's why you hardly hear the jumpdrive activation sound when docked (the sound comes from the stern of the ship, the player always docks at the bow).
Erazil 27 May, 2014 @ 7:29am
like your sound but it a little low volume for me ( difficult to hear when you are dock in capital ship ;) )

thanks you for you works and sorry for my poor english :)
