=================== WHAT IS THIS? ===================
Internal Item Descriptions is a simple, newbie-friendly, plug-and-play mod that provides relevant item information inside the native description UI of the game. The External Item Descriptions mod, from which my mod derives its name, exists and fulfills a very similar purpose; however, I personally found it too intrusive and overwhelming for my liking, so I made this instead.

The game already provides players with a basic description of all items, albeit usually cryptic, if not outright misleading. My mod aims to change that. All item info has been taken directly from the Wiki and rewritten for the purpose of this mod (i.e. shortened); I did not copy any existing EID summaries and did not come up with any new terminologies of my own.

Almost every single item in the game has had its description modified.

===================== FEATURES: =====================
  • Factual information about every single item (effects / stats / pickups or drops); no more vague descriptions like "pray for a miracle", "destined for greatness", "awaken your faith". Descriptions now mostly fully cover what each item does, without the player having to delve into the Wiki to find out what they do on their own.

  • Previously unmentioned information, such as:
     - Pickups added directly to the player inventory ("+99 pennies").
     - Consumables dropped on the ground ("+ 3 heart pickups").
     - Devil / Angel deal chances ("Faith up").
     - Planetarium chances ("Planetarium chance up").
     - Exact amount of gained red heart canisters ("HP up x2").
     - Effect timeframes ("temporary" if in seconds, "for current room", "for current floor").
     - Conditions for item procs ("on hit", "on dealt damage", "on contact" etc).
     - Which items fully heal you ("Full health").
     - Size ups and downs, Tear Size included.

  • Description formula lists up to 3 of the following effects in this specific order:
    [1st Effect] > [2nd Effect] > [Stat Up/Down] > [Planetarium/Faith/Evil] > [+Pickups/Drops]

    Multiple stat ups and downs are always shown in the following order:
    [HP] > [DMG] > [Tears] > [Knockback] > [Speed] > [Range] > [Shot Speed] > [Luck]

  • Wording and phrasing:
     - All words and terms inside the descriptions have been properly capitalized.
     - Most item names are no longer punctuated (e.g "Kamikaze!" is now just "Kamikaze").
     - Items that affect the entire room have "Mass" in their description.
     - Items that count towards the Conjoined transformation are described as "baby".
       Otherwise they are described as "fly", "orbital" or just "familiar" when relevant.
     - All quest items retain their "???" description so as to not spoil new content.
     - Descriptions no longer mention both "shots" and "tears" (now only "tears").
     - Descriptions no longer mention both "toots" and "farts" (now only "toots").
     - Evil up has been preserved to signify the gained black heart and Black Feather synergy.

====================== NOTES: ======================
The modded descriptions display one line of text, just like vanilla Isaac. There is not much space to provide extra information like exact item procs and conditions. Descriptions still mostly contain 8 words or less. Here is a list of some missing information:

- Changes to Tear Height.
- Which eye fires what (Stapler, Eye Drops, Blood Clot etc.).
- How many existing heart containers HP items heal (Dinner, Dessert, Breakfast etc).
- Amount of rooms needed for a proc (e.g. Bag items that activate every X amount of rooms).
- What "low health" means (one red heart, no red hearts, half a red heart etc.).
- Effects of Trinkets, Cards and Runes (WIP).

======================= BUGS: =======================
  • 1.7.7a:
    ⚠️The mod crashes the game when a player dies in Co-op mode. ⚠️

  • 1.7.8a:
     - Camo Undies doesn't provide the DMG / Tears Up boosts introduced in update 1.7.8.
     - Lazarus' Rags doesn't provide the DMG Up boost introduced in update 1.7.8
       (the old, halved stat boost remains).

  • 1.7.9b:
     - Isaac's Tears doesn't provide the DMG Up boost introduced in update 1.7.9.

It sounds kinda crazy to me that community has to make mods to make the game understandable.
I'm sure this is intended though, I'm new to the genre

Hiya, love the mod! A much less intrusive and cheaty-feeling alternative to EID :reheart:

In case you'd find it useful, I've edited items.xml to have descriptions for all the trinkets - you're welcome to use it if you like! Should mostly follow your formatting scheme :)

is there any purpose to not be able to fix the co-op issue, or at least be able to scream at people who start co-op with the mod on, cause we spent hours looking for the mod that caused deaths to crash the game only to lose our save because we didn't know what we could do.

I'm on 1.7.9b and found the following bug:
Whenever Judas picks up Birthright, the game crashes.

@honed The mod is still in working order as of January 6th, 2024. Like the Bugs section says, the mod will work throughout Co-Op play however it will crash the game if a player dies. This is not something new to the recent Co-Op update and you should be wary of using it at all if intending to play with other people.

i would like to know why this mod isnt working since co op released. may i get hwlp for fixing that

Hi @Aisu_J5 , the mod is working on the latest Repentance patch. The only other mod that conflicted with mine was Sorted Hearts, and I don't really know why that is; mods that edit the items.xml file will likely NOT be compatible with Internal Item Descriptions - so mods that give you better Devil deals, revert Treasure Chests to what they contained previously, or general pool rebalancing mods. If you do find the culprit let me know!

hi, can you confirm this mod currently works on repentance last patch? i can't seem to get it to work and i don't think it's conflicting with any other mod i have. Such a shame bc i prefer it to the external descriptions mod

Good news, everyone! I was able to fix most items this mod broke after the update, including The Black Bean (which threw you into an endless farting loop upon hit), Breath of Life (which activated once and then never again), and My Shadow (which failed to spawn its familiar, in turn becoming useless). My Reflection and Ouija Board have also received their respective post-update buffs.

This leaves us with 3 items that still don't work completely as advertised:

- Camo Undies properly cloaks you, maintains a Speed Up when you're cloaked, and deals damage upon decloaking; however, it won't provide its temporary DMG / Tears Up.
- Lazarus' Rags revives you with the pre-update DMG Up (+1.4 instead of +2.7).
- Isaac's Tears fires its tear burst and activates faster than other Actives, as advertised; however, it doesn't provide a flat +5 DMG Up to tears fired by it like in the update.

I apologize for any inconveniences caused by this.

@TrueVoidborn The Risen Lazarus buff introduced in update 1.7.8 does indeed not apply when the mod is active. The buff is smaller than the one you would receive without the mod on. As for Camo Undies, it seems you don't gain the advertised stat-ups upon decloaking, but the other effects do apply. I'm not sure why that is. Both items received no new tags in the update, so I'm struggling to find the culprit.

@dontwannalive I don't speak Russian well, but from what I gather here it seems you're saying the mod does not work. I have confirmed the mod to be in working condition in the latest version of the game, currently 1.7.9b. Check your mod list for conflicts.
