The Ionian Islands are a group of islands in the Ionian Sea, west of mainland Greece. Their history as a distinct region dates back to their centuries-long rule by the Republic of Venice, while the rest of the country was absorbed by the Ottoman Empire. When Venice fell to Napoleon in 1797, the islands briefly came under French rule before being held by the Russians, who supervised the islanders in setting up their own "Septinsular Republic" - the first Greek territory to be governed by Greeks in almost 350 years.

Leader: Antonios Komoutos

Frankokratia: Cities have extra Naval Trade Route range based on the number of adjacent water tiles. Foreign Trade Units passing through your territory grant Food to Cities below 10 Population, and Culture thereafter.

Light Jager: Slightly weaker, but has 1 extra Movement. For 10 turns after disembarking, it gains double Combat Strength when attacking and may pillage without spending Movement points. Replaces the Rifleman.

Angelokastro: 2 extra Defense and 20 extra HP for every adjacent water tile. +1 XP for each worked water tile for Naval Units trained in this City. Replaces the Castle.
