EmptyFork ( Make your own character! ) [ UPDATED! Again. ]

Description
Version 2.1A (SV2)

With this mod you can make your own looking characters with ease.
Or even put yourself into the game!

This mod contains a Read me file. But here it's contents anyways:
This gets updated more than the file.

Hai! I'm Caramel and this is how you can make your own character in Barotrauma.

========= How to make your own model ===========

Where do you find the mod ? ( After latest game updates it got moved again )
SteamLibrary > steamapps > Workshop > Content > 602960 > 2706927528
( Yes those numbers are actual folder names! )

Under Characters > Human
You can use the "Human_Body_Areas.png" to locate where you need to put your model's bodyparts.

Human_Body_Areas2.png is an example to how it's supposed to look.

I suggest using "paint(dot)net" or "gimp" to edit the files.

1. Open "Human_female_heads.png" or "Human_male_heads.png" to edit.

2. Use the "HeadsRanger.png" or "Human_Heads_location.png" to make sure you don't exceed the limit for each head sprite size.

3. If you choosed for example "Human_female_heads.png" you can edit "Human_female.png" to make a matching body.
Use the "Human_Body_Areas.png" to keep your textures within the limitations.
"Human_Body_Areas2.png" is an example how it supposed to look.
>> Be careful ! Every other character in the same gender will use the same body texture !

======= How to upload it to workshop ==========

If you want to make it as your own mod:

0. Make sure Barotrauma isn't running.

1. UnSubscribe from this mod. ( This step can be skipped in newer versions )

2. Copy this mod's folder with it's contents ( Folder name probaby: 2706927528 )

3. Go to: SteamLibrary > steamapps > common > Barotrauma

4. Make a folder called " LocalMods ". ( You might have one already )

5. Paste the mod's folder into " LocalMods " and rename it. ( So its not a bunch of numbers )

6. Open the folder you just renamed.

7. Edit " filelist.xml "
> Remove " steamworkshopid ".
> Change the name and altnames.

Example:
<contentpackage name="My mod name goes here longer name" modversion="1.0.1" corepackage="False" gameversion="0.17.15.0" altnames="My mod name">

8. Launch the game and head to Steam Workshop ( in-game )

9. Go to publish and hopefully your mod appear there.

THIS IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED

Hai! I'm Caramel and this is how you can make your own character in Barotrauma.

========= How to make your own model ===========

Under Characters > Human
You can use the Human_Body_Areas.png to know where to put your model's bodyparts.

Human_Body_Areas2.png is an example to how it's supposed to look.

I suggest using paint. net or gimp to edit the files.

1. Select a prefered image to change.
2. Make sure it has a number ( Human_female.png has no number! )
3. Edit this file accordingly to the Human_Body_Areas.png
4. Edit the Human_XYZ_head.png
> There are multiple heads. Make sure to edit the correct one!
( Example: If you have chosen Human_female_3.png to modify, edit the 3rd head in the Head.png file! )

======= How to upload it to workshop ==========

> As you can see every file's path is listed here.
> Make sure to change it to the correct path each one since you renamed the folder!
( It can be done easily using Ctrl+F / Ctrl + H )

Btw the " crushdepth " value in the <health> tag is set to -3000
It should be a positive value (vanilla is 0 meters for humans);
Change this if you want to avoid getting multiple warnings about the game autodefaulting it to 1300

Haha, this is exactly how I figured out my own template, trying to understand how all these sprite sheets work in Barotrauma. I've even composed all the body parts as 'file objects' into a puppet and animated some walk cycle in Clip Studio Paint, just to see how it will look in motion with my custom clothes and stuff. :steamhappy:

are you able to make the characters controllable without overriding the default Human species? I dont know if this will intrest you to add this info to your mod, but I figured out a work around for making characters with multiple heads, that are still able to use the random head gen feature with the facial attachments for each individual head. my mod is working but i am kinda stumped on how to make it controllable. it is probably something simple i am missing, but i dont want to bang my head anymore if someone else has a tip for me.

Cant figure it out but I would love if somebody made a robot/terminator character head and body. I will give my points to the user who will make my dream come true.

I have released a newer version of EmptyFork ( 2.0&+ ) Now its compatible with the newer versions of the game.
The devs decided to remove some essential features so it's more limited to " heads only".Now it's not that good as it was before but, you will see.
The guide got shorted and it's easier to make your own mod !

It's a known issue with every replacement mod that it crashes the game if a character turns into a husk.
The cause is; The game looks for a non-existing file which might be an overlook from the devs. Hope it will get fixed.

Actually thanks for reminding. I will work on it soon™️
