Bigger Defense Stations

Description
Stop clicking so much to maintain mid-to-late game starbases! This mod adds 2x and 4x larger defense platforms, unlocked via their own technologies. They are intended to be a linear scaling of the vanilla Defense Ptation so as to avoid introducing balance issues. These new platforms use the existing (but unavailable) Defense Station and Defense Fortress units that ship with the game.

This mod is based on breloom1994's Defense Fortress mod, but rebalanced to fall in line with the vanilla defense platform to avoid starbases becoming over powered. No additional defense platform slots are added, for example.

Mod Conflicts - Whole File

Due to the nature of Stellaris modding, chaning various affects to account for the new platform types sometimes requires duplicating entire configuration files, and may conflict with other mod which touch the same files.

Duplicated files:
* `common/static_modifiers/16_static_modifiers_overlord.txt`
* `common/traits/00_admiral_traits.txt`

Mod Conflicts - Specific Items

As there doesn't currently appear to be a mechanism for attching additional effects to existing edicts, Fortress Proclamation was duplicated in order to make it apply to the new defense platform types.

Duplicated items:
* Fortress Proclamation Edict (from `common/edicts/02_ambitions.txt`)

Working (Affects new platform types)

* Fortress Proclamation Edict
* Border Guard Admiral Trait

Not Working (Does NOT affect new platform types)

These appear to be an issue with specific modifiers in some configuration files, and working around it doesn't currently appear to be possible. As such, the following do not correctly apply to the new platform types.

* Bulwark Prefabs Overlord/Subject: Defense Station/Fortress cost and upkeep are not correctly adjusted.
* Fortifier Admiral Trait: Defense Station/Fortress cost and upkeep are not correctly adjusted.

does this mod Include defense stations for dlc races like Aquatics and necrotid?

I've updated this for Stellaris 3.8, but several of the cost and upkeep modifiers simply refuse to work, while others work just fine. This means that Bulwark specifically still doesn't apply to the new platform types. There are more details in the description above. Sorry :/

@Mastermind, I messed with the section placements so they lined up better with the ship designer UI. Maybe this helps :)

Yes, it would be great if you could update this. One critical problem right now, imo, is that the Bulwark Prefabs empire modifier (-75% build and upkeep cost of defense platforms, from a trade deal with a Bulwark subject) doesn't apply to Defense Stations or Defense Fortresses. This is such a drastic economic difference that it makes them not worth using :(
As it stands, building up large numbers of defense _platforms_ in the late game requires RSI-inducing numbers of clicks. This mod definitely serves a valuable purpose.

Hi there! Loving the mod. Just one small remark on the placement of the sections on the defense fortress: they are not symmetrical. Is there a way to control on what position the sections are placed? The defense station is so nicely symmetrical 🙂

For those who want Defensive Stations and Defensive Fortresses to be returned to the game, I suggest supporting my post-suggestion on the official paradox forum. In my post, one of the points is a request to add (return) the functionality of this mod to vanilla.

@Deviant, The "Change Notes" tab above contains details on the various releases over time if you are interested in those. For instance, I updated the mod yesterday to match the Defense Platform changes made in v3.4. Anything targeting an older version of the game are likely to be relatively under powered.

The bigger stations do suppress piracy and should "just work" in general. The one exception I'm aware of is "Fortress Proclamation", which targets "Defense Platform" specifically, and can't be fixed without modifying the base game files as far as I could figure out. If anyone knows differently, I would love to hear how.
