Stronger Sound Muffling Inside the Cab

Description
Since 1.43 it's possible to emulate how the cab insulation muffles the sound of the engine and outside world.

This simply changes EQ settings for the sound inside the cab with the windows closed.

Important notes
  • game versions: 1.43-1.45 (please report issues in the comments)
  • SCS trucks not included: Scanias and New Actros. For now I recommend you use the free enigne sound mods by Max2712 that come with fine-tuned settings, with roughly the same level of muffling.
  • unfortunately some mod trucks do not support other mods to overwrite these sound settings

Who is it for?

People will say: "But I want to hear my engine." That's ok. And then this may not be for you. But then I talk to people, and they say: "You know, in reality modern trucks are really surprisingly quite". It's up to your personal preference.

Are these settings realistic?
This is heavily inspired by Max2712's newer engine sounds. Other modders added custom insulation, too, e.g. Harven with the HX520 and W990.

I wanted to avoid extreme settings, but achieve a noticeable effect. There is already some variation between the SCS trucks. Based on this information, I roughly approximate values for each truck.

For older trucks you wouldn't expect cab insulation to be as strong as in modern trucks. See "Classic truck" below.

There is an intensity slider ;)
Use this mod, and then slightly open the windows to mix in the unfiltered exterior sound.

Other mods to consider

Mod order and conflicts
Cabin sound attenuation settings can be included e.g. in truck mods, or engine sound mods.

If you find any high-quality sound mod with really good muffling, e. g. Max's, by all means put them at higher priority!

Supported trucks
  • most SCS trucks as of 1.45, except the Scanias and New Actros, since they're covered by Max2712
  • Actros MP2 and MP3 by Dotec, because those are the only popular mod trucks I know that got updated to support cab insulation settings
  • Ford F-MAX by TeamSimulasyonTurk, with this compatibility add-on (ATTENTION: place above truck, but below this mod)

  • If I ever go dark:
I totally allow anybody to pick up work on any of my mods. Credit is more than enough.
  • Until then:
In the case of an issue or update taking too long, if you can prepare an update, I'll be happy to upload it.

Hey. To be clear, any engine sound mods should have the priority set below your mod, i.e. your mod shall be on top of the list?

@Tuco, it should, but depends on the truck, and if you have other (engine) sound mods enabled.

@Balake, I see. Which truck exactly? What d you mean, "x5"? Let's see if I need to enable support explicitly.

@Balake, what's your mod order? Is the Kriechbaum sound below or above this one?
Balake 26 Jun, 2023 @ 10:24am
Alright thanks. I just want to do this because for example the daf x5 sound by Kriechbaum is a little plain idk probably just me lol

im mainly comparing it with youtube pov trucking videos, and from most videos, the sound is very muffled

@Balake – You can inspect the files. Do you know how to find downloaded Steam workshop mods on your hard drive? You can then make a local copy and edit it. – Well, more bass: Are you sure this mod takes priority over other engine mods that come with their own settings? Because the sound should already be quite muffled (less treble and mids). In fact, I had to disabled it the other day for a CAT C15, because I had such an unnatural rumbling roar... 😅
