Martian Surface

Description
Martian Surface is a map that builds on Luna, and is the second surface map in the game. Unlike Luna, terrain is taller and provides more cover. It's quite foggy and dark, which should make it more visually interesting. Unlike Luna, it does not have additional scenery like ground stations or ships taking off.

If you find any bugs or have some feedback, please send it to @IHave#7106 on the official Nebulous Discord in the #mod-development channel.

If you like this map, you might also like Mars from Orbit by 30k and Luna by me and Lukas04.

Details
Maximum players: 10 | Recommended players: 6-8
Control points: 5
Station: Center
Amount of cover: Very high

Known Issues
- You can phase through the terrain with the camera
- Terrain colliders are not quite accurate. This shouldn't hurt gameplay much, but might break immersion. Unfortunately higher resolution colliders are not possible without significant performance issues.

So I've just discovered that this entire time I've been using a poorly calibrated monitor! Now it's on my second monitor, yeah, you're right. I'll get a fix out soon:tm:, though I'm quite busy with other stuff.

Alright. Just tested it again and I can't tell its any brighter.

The following is aesthetics opinion only. I want to really like this map and so far its mechanically great. Lots to hide behind, offers something new other maps dont have.

1.) I think it needs a little more haze if you crank the brightness up any, which maybe you should a smidgen. I don't want to visually see well past 10km.

2.) Either the sun or the terrain are the same color. That's bad. You need a contrast between them. Shade the terrain more orange like martian soil or something so 'everything' isn't so red.

3.) Flip the sun to the other side for a morning view instead of evening. You do this, the side of the ship with the nameplate will be visible during the map intro cut scene for single player.

4.) The Withdrawal Line is now visible. This is great. And then I thought, oops, that will raise the ceiling on the map won't it? So maybe lower it back down and split the difference? We only need to 'mostly' see where that line is and you couldn't at all before.

None of the above are necessary. They are aesthetic commentary. Thanks for allowing the feedback and for this great map!

Cool, gonna try it! I'm glad you enjoy feedback.Good on ya, sir! I'll test it and tell you what I like and don't. It's shaping up to be a really cool map.

@Ana An update to make it brighter and change the name in the picker to "Martian Surface" will be pushed in the next hour or so.

Nice work on the height mapping. One piece of feedback the other Mars mod on the workshop also displays as "Mars" providing a bit of brief confusion when trying to select maps. You may want to change yours to Mars Surface to avoid confusion. Nice work tho!

Just played it. It's amazing.

And I have some feedback.
Texture wise... I'd like to see some patchy areas of white colored dry ice on the ground here and there. Maybe some along the valley trenches. Also, the red haze is good. Very moody. Maybe a little too red?

Complaint: It looks like the map takes place at twilight. The terrain is as red as the sky, it all blends in. It shouldn't. The terrain should be more orange in color. It needs to contrast with the sky some because it doesn't look good. It's a terribly depressing map because it's so dark. I literally enjoyed the map more when a ship detonated as it lit up the map. I would bring the sun up above the horizon about 10-15° so we can get some good light in there and see better. That's the biggest complaint. It's hard to tell where the sky ends and the terrain begins. I think it seriously detracts from the beauty of the map. Also, the name of the map is the same as the name of the other 30k Mars map. FYI.
