Update 27.03: reduced development gain from destroying holdings under 15 development. Destruction now causes piety loss for characters when compassionate or forgiving are virtues in their religion.

Scourge of God: Destruction lets you unleash your fury on all of mankind. Holdings of all kinds can now be completely destroyed and turned to ashes. Cities, temples and castle holdings will be wiped off the map, while province capitals will turn to ruins. It will take years or decades for ruins to return to anything even resembling a settlement.

The destruction will cause shock waves throughout the region, and regional rulers will not like the destruction of other rulers holdings in this cruel way. Neighboring counties will prepare to take on the invaders by increasing defensiveness and recruitment for the next ten years. The targeted county and neighboring counties will struggle to maintain control, as a large stream of refugees, panic and economic disruption drives instability.

The mechanics can be used both during raids and siege, but are only available under certain circumstances:
- Characters possessing the new Scourge of God trait can destroy both during raids and sieges
- Same goes for rulers of cultures with the new cultural tradition Destroyers of Civilization
- Tribal rulers have a chance to get the event both during raids and sieges.
- Rulers who can’t raid have a chance of getting the event during sieges.

The ordinary ruler cannot get the event unless they have certain traits such as vengeful, sadistic, lunatic, wrathful or viking. These traits will each increase the chance (stacking) by an additional one percent per siege. Be careful waging wars against wrathful, sadistic lunatics.


Good to know:
- In order to destroy, you must lead your own troops and army size must be over 1000 men.
- The scourge of god acquisition event can fire after completely destroying a holding. Currently the chance of the event firing is 20 percent.
- Destroyers of Civilization tradition can only be adopted if the culture is still in the tribal era.
- Rulers have a cases belli on characters who destroy holdings.
- When non-capital holdings are destroyed, they will disappear from the map. This usually takes a while to happen on its own, but will happen instantly if you reload save.
- Ruins have a five percent chance to revert to tribal holding yearly. You may skip this step altogether by paying for reconstruction immediately after destruction.
- AI is not very likely to pick the Destroyers of Civilization tradition, but it can happen. Cultural head possessing certain traits will increase the likelihood.
- Scourge of God trait is available in ruler designer
- At the beginning of the raid, you may get an event where you get to opportunity to destroy the settlement. If you accept, you will get a modifier that cuts raid speed to a third. Destroyers of Civilization tradition cuts raid speed in half, and can therefore destroy faster than ordinary raiders.
- Looking at the development map is a good way of finding destroyed holdings in feudal regions, as they will be colored red.
- Destroying holdings will grant large development gains in capital, as well as twice the loot of an ordinary raid. However, you will gain major opinion penalties with all realm rulers and neighboring realm rulers of the affected county. They will also get a casus belli on you.

Hey Mod maker, if you are still around, can you make this mod work by having plagues cause the given effects? Like a plague rolls through so bad it annihilates the county? And maybe . . . the world as a whole?

Awesome concept. I've been waiting for something like CK2's pillaging mechanics since CK3 came out.
