XMAX FTW

Description
This mod is a combination of XMAX, A Few Bug Fixes and Awesome Artifacts. You can choose between 10 different spawn settings. The mod supports all DLC and has fixes for DLC boss spawns, but the DLCs aren't required to use the mod. I've put in a lot of effort to integrate the mods with each other and design a good experience, the mod is meticulously tailored to play well. All credit goes to the original authors. See the links below for details about each mod.

In addition to the changes from those mods, the mod has several fixes and improvements which you can find in the changelog linked below. Here are a couple of the mod's highlights:

The mod has system changes from AE, such as support for electrum.

All XMAX boss spawns have been fixed, and their level randomizer works better, creating more varied encounters.

The amount of champions and heroes also increases with spawn multiplier in a finely tuned way that feels appropriate for each spawn multiplier.

The exp. penalty on death is reduced by 20%, as deaths can be more unfair on higher spawn multipliers if you come unprepared and are caught off-guard.

The mummy priests in EE, the Soul Empusa AoE in Act 4, and the draugr princes in Ragnarok drain less energy, and the skeleton warlocks in Wusao Mountain no longer cast Spellbreaker.

The damage reflection modifier in Tartarus has been removed from the modifier pool.

All pets now benefit from flat damage bonuses, the Core Dweller has been improved, the nymph's AI is better, and the "Maul" skill for wolf pets now correctly does base melee damage in addition to the listed bonus damage.

Shrines and auras have a larger buff radius, so all of your pets and teammates can fit within the buff radius of shrines and auras.

Herbal Remedy, Rune of Life, Energy Shield and Heat Shield are now aura skills so that you don't need to reapply them constantly.

The "Arc of Attack" bug for Rend Armor and Spreading Influence has been fixed.

The Gouge skill in Hunting now uses the default attack animation instead of the long one it had which slowed down your attacks.

Heart of Frost has been rebalanced so that cold damage is no longer at a disadvantage compared to lightning damage.

The penalties for Vitality and Bleeding resistance have been cut in half. Originally, they would not receive penalties on Epic and Legendary difficulty, but that was changed in Anniversary Edition even though there isn't enough vitality/bleeding resistance gear to make up for it. With this change you'll end up with -50% instead of -100%, which is a fair middle-ground. People won't be forced to use one of three very rare items just for the vitality resistance anymore.
The "Hardcore" versions do not include this change.

Reduced experience from killing monsters
You gain reduced experience from kills depending on the spawn multiplier you're playing on. You will still outlevel enemies, but not as grossly.
x2: -15% exp. from kills. Total exp. gain: 170%
x3: -30% exp. from kills. Total exp. gain: 210%
x4: -40% exp. from kills. Total exp. gain: 240%
x5: -50% exp. from kills. Total exp. gain: 250%
xMax: -60% exp. from kills. Total exp. gain: 300%
x3x1: -50% exp. from kills. x3 spawns with x1 bosses.

For those who like it rough, the Hardcore versions have full XP penalty on death and full resistance penalty on Epic/Legendary difficulty, as well as lower XP gain:
x3 Hardcore: -50% exp. from kills. Total exp. gain: 150%
x5 Hardcore: -65% exp. from kills. Total exp. gain: 175%

I recommend x3 for a standard playthrough, or xMax+ if you want maps that are overfilled with 10x mobs, and 5x boss battles that kick your butt. Both x1, x3x1 and xMax- only have 1x bosses that spawn as their highest level variants.

But wait, there's more!
The changes that are listed above are only a couple of the mod's highlights. For a full list of changes such as skill improvements, improvements to pets, difficulty enhancements, bug fixes...

This bounce mod can be used with existing characters and can be toggled on and off without problems.

There's a version of this mod called Loot Plus XMAX FTW which contains the full version of Loot Plus with its high drop rates. It can be found here:

Tartarus already scales, and I don't think it would be a good idea.

Very cool mods. Could you tell me if you’ll be able to combine them with these mods in the future?

I tried doing it myself, but I couldn’t figure out how.

I really want to remove the skill cap on all character classes — to be able to upgrade skills beyond their current limits.

Heya, i was looking through the various skills in TQ and noticed that this mod includes some QOL changes to a few skills like 'herbal remedy'. That got me to attempt to remove the weapon class restriction on the passives 'wood lore', 'weapon training' and 'concussive blow' from hunt, warfare and defense respectively. Unfortunately my forray into modding ended abruptly when i realised that merging the changes into your mod pack is not as simple as copying the edited files into the mods folder structure. That breaks the bounce mod *shrugs*.

If there is a way to do that for myself then i would apreciate a quick explanation on how to edit the .arz files (i assume) with the artmanager (i assume again) for my owne use.
Or maaaybe... (wink wink)

Regardless, thank you for creating and maintaining the mod pack. Cheers Mate

Whether it crashes or not depends a lot on your hardware. I have the most powerful PC available and never crash no matter what. Try using the x5 version instead, or even the x3 version. The x5 version has the same density as xMax in many parts of the map since the mob pools rarely support more than x5 to begin with, although there are some pools which support all the way up to x10 which results in a buggy hyper-dense cluster of mobs. Perhaps without those clusters your game won't crash.

Hey Nappa,

I'm trying to unlock the "Avatar of Thanatos" achievement (500,000 kills) using this mod. However, with the xMax version, the game consistently crashes after around 15 minutes, even with all graphic settings reduced to "Low" or turned off completely.

I suspect it's due to the sheer volume of loot that doesn't despawn as I progress. For example, clearing a horde of Bats or Harpies seems to cause less lag than fighting a horde of Satyrs and Skeletons, which drop a bunch of loot.

Do you have any recommendations on the best version to use for this? I’m aware there's no 10x mobs version with zero loot drops, but that would be ideal for this achievement grind. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It required a separate set of boss pool files from the other versions, and no one was using it. I asked if anyone would miss it if I removed it, no one replied. So I cut that version to save space and time, I already have 18 different versions to maintain which is more than I'd like.

I think most people who want to farm mobs go with XMAX- and those who want the craziest challenge go with XMAX+. Those who want a more "reasonable" challenge go with x5 since it's the same as XMAX+ but without the buggy mob density, and those who want a "proper" playthrough go with x3. Then there are those who don't like multiple bosses and go with x3x1 or just x1. The original x10x3 version of XMAX filled this niche role benefiting the fewest players, and it had the most technical hurdles, so by process of elimination it was the best choice for cutting the mod down.

Why no x3 bosses with the x10 version like the original Xmax?
