Description
PLEASE READ

Challenging map for experienced players, which has only 4 portal surfaces, all on the ceiling and only 4 connections. Basic knowledge of portal orientations recommended.

Difficulty: 7/10
No special execution skills or running required.
The almost non-existent "timing based" actions are implemented in a player-friendly way.

Unexpected information:
Sphere climbing is part of the solution, but only at a marked spot and nowhere else.

List of unintended things:
  • glitches
  • mid-air shots (or shots while being in the funnel!)
  • colliding with the sphere mid-air
  • randomly rolling the ball and hoping that it will hit something useful
  • speedrun techniques (bhop, strafing etc.)
  • sphere tossing with wild mouse movements
  • shooting through the thin "slits"

Additional item information:
- all shots can and should be done while standing on solid ground
- narrow ceiling and floor surfaces have to be shot while standing in-line with them. I added a darker floor texture wherever possible in order to indicate the line of sight
- white ceiling surfaces have 2 orientations, depending from which side you shoot the portal. I added magnets to make the shots smooth. It's recommended to stay at least one block away from the surface and not directly under it when firing.
- jail bars block the sphere, but everything else can pass.
- the "cave" with the rescue signage only helps if you're trapped and want to erase your portals
- there's no part of the solution that requires you to put the sphere down on flat surfaces and hoping that it doesn't roll away. Putting the sphere in ditches is fine, though.
- all faith plates have a straight trajectory.

Known issues:
- linux users can't solve this map! player colliding with a lightbridge leads to an undesirable outcome. Play on your own risk! Cheats / solution videos can help to overcome the issue.
- if the player collides with the sphere in mid-air on purpose by stepping on the faith plate and then letting the sphere go, so that they collide over the platform, massive exploits are possible. It's something I can't fix, so please don't do it.
- the game physics may fail in very rare situations. I tried my best to make the faith plate behaviour as consistent as possible

Useful things:
  • use the command "host_timescale 1.5" (or other values) for reducing walking times
  • F6 / F7 recommended
  • you can use the mouse wheel for better aiming
  • "noclip" can help to do some experiments. Be aware that the added portal magnets only work while standing on ground
  • feel free to adjust the music and/or sound effects in the options menu

This puzzle took me many multi-hour sessions, and it is no doubt the hardest Portal 2 puzzle I have solved without any help. At a point I completely gave up and played many other maps, and after coming back to this one, I realized that you could stand on a sphere and that it's listed in the description. After that it took me about 100 minutes to think of and fully execute the solution. Oh boy was it satisfying to finally get working!

I played and favorited this puzzle a while ago, but forgot to comment. All I will say is that the map sets the bar for orientation puzzles somewhere in the stratosphere. The praise is fully justified.

I thought I was at the end, turns out I had only made it halfway :steamfacepalm: One of the best maps I've had the pleasure of solving, definite favourite :)

I have learned I have a harder time talking about hard maps, cause its difficult to pinpoint a favorite moment. This one is no exception, I pretty much loved every moment of this one. The best exploration of Portal Orientation we currently have. All timer for me, faved!
