Oh wow! I think I'm in the wrong building...

This puzzle took me many multi-hour sessions, and it is no doubt the hardest Portal 2 puzzle I have solved without any help. At a point I completely gave up and played many other maps, and after coming back to this one, I realized that you could stand on a sphere and that it's listed in the description. After that it took me about 100 minutes to think of and fully execute the solution. Oh boy was it satisfying to finally get working!

I played and favorited this puzzle a while ago, but forgot to comment. All I will say is that the map sets the bar for orientation puzzles somewhere in the stratosphere. The praise is fully justified.

I thought I was at the end, turns out I had only made it halfway :steamfacepalm: One of the best maps I've had the pleasure of solving, definite favourite :)

@Mattchew & ;masalt: Thank you for playing, streaming and your kind feedback!

I have learned I have a harder time talking about hard maps, cause its difficult to pinpoint a favorite moment. This one is no exception, I pretty much loved every moment of this one. The best exploration of Portal Orientation we currently have. All timer for me, faved!

gg, fantastical map; i like the part where you play basketball with the man in the glass

that was encredible! Using that much of rotating portals was a very cool experience

Woah, I never would have guessed! I am familiar with that glitch, yes. That is a very creative fix; luckily the world portals double as a cool aesthetic detail :P
Narkodes  [author] 16 Aug, 2023 @ 11:22am
@Teo: Thank you so much for the kind words. The world portals aren't purely decorative. The map had the issue that you can see a laser from many places, that shouldn't be visible because it's blocked by the sphere. Maybe you are familiar with this visual glitch. The placement of those two world portals seems to fix that.

Incredible puzzle. I finally managed to beat this map after being stuck last year on (what I thought was) the final sequence. After revisiting it in the past two days, I spotted the main move of "bootstrapping" the funnel, then it took another long time to find the move of dropping the sphere onto the faithplate to subvert having to manually press the respawn button. Ingenious design, definitely my favorite map from you and also my favorite map I've beaten on the workshop in the last long, long while. Great work!!

P.S. I loved the sneaky use of world portals :D

how do i make it brighter

I was playing around on the Linux version and noticed holding forward let me slide up the light bridge. Might be worth trying for anyone having issues.

Masterpiece of a map, so many great moves done with so few connections and elements. Something I forgot to mention during the stream was how good the grandiose decoration in this map looked, it worked really well with the open space. Thumbs up and a definite favourite!

@skosh: Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention. I was not aware that Linux has a different coding for physics. That is very unfortunate. Are you aware of any other differences? I don't want to run into similar situations in the future.
Other than that, I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway, that means a lot to me. Sorry for the inconvenience, I added a note in the description.
skosh 3 Dec, 2022 @ 8:10am
Excellent puzzle. Had me stumped for a long time. Note that this map is not solvable on the Linux version of Steam. The physics are not the same. When I hit the vertical light bridge I did not slide up far enough to make it through the portal.
Narkodes  [author] 19 Oct, 2022 @ 12:38pm
@horse: Thank you very much for playing and commenting! Funnily enough, that part was one of the hardest for most players. While making the map, I thought it would be a nice addition but underestimated the increase of the difficulty just by adding that one move.
horse 19 Oct, 2022 @ 11:43am
Fantastic as always! Finally understanding why the sphere climb is useful was a great aha moment.
Narkodes  [author] 21 Aug, 2022 @ 10:52pm
@DiDo Killer!: Thank you for playing. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
DiDo Killer! 21 Aug, 2022 @ 1:37pm
Brilliant map, definitely one of my favorites. The right strike between logic and creativity. I personally enjoyed how throughout the solution, the exit condition was always barely out of reach. Took some thought, enjoyed it a lot!
Narkodes  [author] 17 Aug, 2022 @ 11:59pm
@可砸: Thank you very much for the video! I'll add it to the description. I'm glad you came back to the map and enjoyed it. The 'echoed/mirrored structure' you mentioned, was one of my main goals. I'm satisfied how it turned out.

@ShinDog: Thank you so much for your comment. I'm glad you solved it in the end and that the map was able to give you some distraction in these dark times. :p2aperture:
可砸 17 Aug, 2022 @ 6:09am
Fantastic work!!!:p2cube: I really enjoy this perfect logic, though my sense of orientations once made me very despair...I think I've got most of the steps planned, but the messed up memory keeps me from finding the next steps...so I admire the author of this map :p
Anyway,I think the nicest place is the angled funnel, this is an outstanding funnel! As well as the ceiling glass! It's amazing how the beginning and the end echo each other, lol one of the best sphere I've ever seen:p2turret:

I join the previous reviews and compliments. A magnificent map in which every detail organically and elegantly fits into a complete and very difficult puzzle. I got a lot of pleasure when finally all the pieces of the puzzle came together into a single picture. In summary, I can only say one thing - your work is beyond praise. Thanks for creating it!
Narkodes  [author] 1 Jul, 2022 @ 3:18pm
@Nobody No-One: Thank you very much for playing and commenting! I'm glad you liked it. It's nice to see you around again. Ironically enough, the null portal move is easy in retrospect, but every player who completed the map had serious trouble to come up with it.
Nobody No-One 1 Jul, 2022 @ 2:17pm
I really loved this map. Everything flowed together super well; the amount of moves forced in really subtle ways was amazing. I especially liked the part where you had to clear your portals, which probably took me the longest to see. Thumbs up and favorited.
Narkodes  [author] 24 Jun, 2022 @ 2:46am
@Talisac: I can understand your sentiment. Unfortunately the angled funnel, faith plate trajectories and other stuff force the layout to be rather big. In such cases I recommend to work with noclip and host_timescale commands, so that the time for navigating through the map isn't a big deal anymore. However, I'm glad you still enjoyed it! Thank you very much for playing and leaving feedback.
Talisac 23 Jun, 2022 @ 7:06am
That was a twisted great puzzle, and good looking one. The only down-side for me is how big it is and how long funneling and walking are taking; big maps usually confuse me, i have hard time to link parts beetwen them. I could figure big steps quite easyly, but took me a while to fill the gap beetwen!

Good work!
Narkodes  [author] 18 May, 2022 @ 11:45am
@Aneonen: Thank you so much for your feedback and the fav! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Solving it backwards can definitely help, although the rather unconventional "exit condition" needs good observation in the first place . I hope you have solved it in the intended manner. Did cou find out what exactly caused your brightness issues? Did it affect all maps?
Aneonen 18 May, 2022 @ 11:13am
Excellent puzzle! I thought I'd hack away at this casually, but it went a lot faster than I expected (though not fast) - for a good reason! After acquiring the sphere, I chose to work out everything else in the backwards direction from the exit. Puzzles like Ontology, where performing this is not only possible but constructive, are very satisfying. I was very impressed by the incredible amount of flip-flopping of the portals' orientations; very thematically consistent. It was also interesting to observe that a huge amount of the structure of the map is preventative rather than enabling, with the various funnel/bridge/button chokepoints. And of course, once I mitigated my brightness issues, I enjoyed the layout; I quite like these seemingly-open maps.

So few puzzle elements and yet so hard too, creating something like this is hard and rare too.
Beautifully designed and a big brain puzzle  Favorited !

Fantastic map! Very clever intricate moves and lots of fun! But I'm kinda stumped of how to custom music in beemod. I know there was a link of how to put custom music in beemod, but it was really confusing. I like to know how to put custom music in beemod.

i think i would describe my solving process as a chicken with its head cut off :steamhappy: such a great map!!

@hub: Your video is 100% intended. Thank you for sharing.
@Tom: Thank you for the fav. Good to know you liked it in the end, although you were stuck and frustrated. Sorry for the inconveniences. Your video is also intended although I'm confused why pulling the sphere off from the custom stairs went like that in your run . :yoku2:

definitely creative and cool map. favourited!!!
solution video(asked narkodes) for anyone who want hints https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lsqlvew_tqo
the following is the feeling after playing this map
i was very frustrated and got stuck after getting the sphere, and spent about 8 hours to get the next step or maybe i am foolish XD and after getting myself into the reverse funnel and everything go straight without any problems

@Libbybapa: Once again, thank you a lot for all your help, which made this map possible. I'm glad you enjoyed the outcome that much.

@jandlml: Great, I knew you will beat it! It was fun to watch bits of your solving process.

jandlml 20 Apr, 2022 @ 8:26pm
lol i did it!! what i described as something that would be really cool was the answer. you were actually was able to put it in and it was a surprise when i did it because i was just trying something out . such an excellent map!!!! thanks so much for watching my rambling around your beautiful map. thumbs way up and awarded :steamhappy:
jandlml 20 Apr, 2022 @ 5:02pm
i am so stuck, i keep thinking i have the answer and it doesnt work. i just cant think of anything else. ive gone back a:steamsad:nd forth with portal placements with the funnel and i still end up where i either cant get back up to get the cube or i cant get back to where i can respawn the cube :steamsad:.
jandlml 19 Apr, 2022 @ 11:14pm
i am so stuck all i can think to do narkodes specifically said not to do faith plate holding sphere and then let it go to stop my momentum . its the only thing i can think of to be able to get back to the stairs so i can respawn the cube. then im out. i have it set so all i have to do is respawn the cube ,where i have the bridge positioned so it keeps flipping the cube to the button, then go down to the flaith plate, wait for the cube to respawn ,hit the portal to change the bridge direction and then im out but i cant get back to the stairs .
Libbybapa 19 Apr, 2022 @ 4:01pm
jandlml, it sounds like you have done some good thinking and are largely on the right track. Interestingly enough, it is not possible to tell from your screenshot if what you have done is correct, because if both portals are flipped it results in the exact same appearance, but greatly changes what you can do at that point. However, it is most likely that the state you show is not a part of the solution, or you probably wouldn't be asking. I think you are probably at the point that was hardest for me to see. If you keep at it, I'm sure you'll get it!
jandlml 18 Apr, 2022 @ 8:24pm
jandlml 18 Apr, 2022 @ 7:58pm
oh man im so close. i feel i know what i need to do but cant get there. i have the sphere on the platform that cuts the laser. and i am looking at the door. i know if i hit a new portal on the funnel it will turn the funnel and grab the cube off the platform but i need it there to launch me to the door but i need it off to get rid of the funnel blocking my way, so i assume i need to respawn the sphere somehow while im standing on the launch pad so in that split second the sphere hits the button it will launch me to the door. is this right?
Libbybapa 18 Apr, 2022 @ 9:19am
Fantastic map! Creative, beautiful and elegant solution! Amazing attention to detail. Thank you for making!
