Credit where credit is due:

JB, for making all the difficult XML'd paint blocks on the nose and the number panels

Spey, for making the butts of the locomotives look fabulous

scxeech, for brainstorming ideas on how to make the front of the locomotives look better, and those ideas worked wonders

30$ Night Vision, for creating all the thumbnails and making the Kansas City Southern collection possible

Specifications

  • 3 locomotives: KCS 1 FP9A "Shreveport", KCS 2 FP9A "Meridian", and KCS 3 F9B "Pittsburg"
  • 2 baggage cars: "Kansas City" and "Heavener"
  • 4 seat coaches: "Joplin", "Port Arthur", KCS 271, and "Texarkana"
  • 1 tavern-observatory car: "Shreveport"

Lore

The Southern Belle was a named passenger train service offered by Kansas City Southern Railway (KCS) from the 1940s through the 1960s, running between Kansas City, Missouri, and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Although the original railroad service ended in 1968, Kansas City Southern created an executive line in May of 1995, featuring locomotives and coaches that were painted in the original Southern Belle scheme.

MUST READ

The handles for getting inside the locomotives are located in the top right corners of the door frames.

Startup:

1. Open the control cabinet in the back of the cab. Toggle every breaker. Next, open the door on the right side of the locomotive and make your way behind the engine to the engine control stand. Toggle the "Fuel Pumps" key and the isolation key. After that, simply press the "PRIME MOVER START" button, wait until the engine primes, and then it'll startup.

2. Head to the booster unit (The middle one that has no cab). Release the handbrake at the front of the unit. Behind the steam generator water tank is the electrical breaker box. Toggle every breaker. Next, make your way behind the engine to the engine control stand. Toggle the "Fuel Pumps" key and the isolation key. After that, simply press the "PRIME MOVER START" button, wait until the engine primes, and then it'll startup.

3. Head to the next locomotive, which is the FP9A "Meridian". Repeat everything you did in step 1, but also toggle the "Toggle Slave", "Rear Connector Receive", and "Invert Locomotive Direction" flip switches. (Don't forget to toggle the "Generator field" switch and release the independent brake.)

To Get Moving:

"Prime Mover Throttle" Lever: controls the throttle of the engine.

"Reverser" Lever: Points towards the direction in which you want to move.

"Independent Brake" Lever: Applies brakes only to the locomotive.

"Automatic Brake" Lever: Applies brakes to the entire line of trains.

To begin moving, toggle the "Generator Field" flip switch on the left of the engineer's control stand. Pull the prime mover throttle up past 0.15. Next, push the reverse lever to 1 if you want to move forwards, or -1 if you want to move backwards. After that, slowly release the independent brakes and you should be on your way.

Switching Tracks:

Located on the ceiling of the cab is the signal switcher radio. To change any junction, input 440 into the keypad and press the track switch button next to it. The track switcher has a range of 1000 meters.

Controlling multiple trains using ESS (Engine slave systems)

This locomotive utilizes the latest standardized Engine Slave Systems 1.4, and is mostly compatible back to 1.0 in all regards but dynamic brakes and rolling stock brakes. In order to turn a locomotive into a slave, turn on the "Slave" key. Now the slave systems have been set to receive controls rather than send. It will also transmit the controls it receives over radio and connectors. Then select whether or not it is receiving from the front connector, rear connector, or radio signal (defaults to front). If it is receiving from radio, make sure the master unit and slave are both on the same frequency. If the locomotive is facing away from the master, make sure to invert direction.

Known Issues/Disclaimers

  • This add-on is probably very laggy on low-end devices due to the large number of subgrids. Higher-end computers are recommended.
  • The horns on the Shreveport and Meridian might break. It has to do with the game engine and they work fine when the locomotives are spawned individually, but the best way to fix the issue as of right now is to reload the add-on.
  • Turning on the heater in the locomotives might cause the engines to overheat
  • Couplers might stress and pull further apart, creating a falling hazard.
  • The nose compartment isn't accessible because XML sorta ruins the interior. Sorry!
