WW1 Cargo Submarine "Deutschland"

An almost full-size replica of the Deutschland, a blockade-running German merchant uboat launched in 1916 and used during World War I. She was built with private funds by German businessmen early in the war and made two successful trading trips to America before being taken over by the Imperial German Navy and converted into a warship.

--> Infinite Generator used for underwater propulsion because batteries in this game are somehow about 2% the capacity of the lead acid ones from 1916

To Dive

Flood Main Ballast Tank Fully

Use Diving planes and forward speed to head underwater

Auto depth just controls the diving planes, you will need to manually flood the tanks. (You can set an auto depth of 0 when motoring on the surface to keep the bow from unrealistically slightly rising out of the water)

After using the diesels for a bit on the surface you will have to flood the trim tank slightly to compensate for the reduced weight (completely empty diesel tanks = fully flooded trim tank for diving trim)

General Controls

All Engine Controls at back of control room

When surfaced, top speed is achieved with the Diesels turned on

Raise the radio masts from radio room

Panel on Starboard side of control room has hatch locking controls, navigation lights, bilge pumps etc

Arctic clothing is provided in lieu of heaters

Cargo Handling

Open External hatch covers and unlock pressure hull hatches from control room

cargo not larger than 3x3 base dimensions can then be lowered (and cajoled!) down into the cargo rooms and holds.

Robust cargoes, such as raw rubber were historically kept in the ‘wet’ holds which are outside the pressure hull and are open to seawater (The fuel tank fillers are also located in these holds)
