Description
Compatibility with the Odyssey DLC

If you have this mod active in addition to the Odyssey DLC, then the "Mixed Biome" feature from the DLC is disabled, and transitions from this mod will appear instead. This mod will work the same way it always has, no changes have been made to its features.

> What are the differences?
The "Mixed Biome" feature from Odyssey places always exactly two biomes per map, and the map is split roughly in half along a distorted line. This mod supports up to seven biomes per map, and they are distributed on the map based on the adjacent world tiles.

Description

This is an add-on for Geological Landforms that generates maps with multiple biomes.

Plants will grow based on the biome at their position on the map, and animals will be able to wander in from the adjacent biomes.

For example, if you settle on a Temperate Forest world tile that has some Desert adjacent to it, then one side of your map will have some Desert terrain, plants and animals.

Or, if you find a lonely Rainforest tile surrounded by Arid Shrubland, then you will get a nice little rainforest area in the middle of your map.

Direct downloads for non-Steam users are available here: GitHub Releases[github.com]

FAQ

> Can I get more than two biomes on the same map?
Yes, if you settle on a world tile with multiple different biomes adjacent to it. Theoretically you can get up to 7 biomes on one map, but that will be extremely rare to find.

> How do temperature and weather work on maps with multiple biomes?
Temperature and weather are determined by the properties of the world tile (the values in the "Terrain" tab of the planet map). At the border of two biomes, that will usually be around the average temperature you would expect for a transition zone between those biomes.

> Can I safely add or remove this mod from existing saves?
It can safely be added at any time, existing colony maps will not be affected, only newly generated ones. Removing is also fine, but any active maps with multiple biomes will revert to only having their main biome for plant and animal spawning.

Compatibility

  • Compatible with biomes added by other mods.

  • Yayo's Nature: Can be used together, however when that mod changes the biome after some time, that new biome will apply to the entire map, overriding the transitions created by this mod.

Aw, thats too bad.

But thank you for your response.

@Vexacuz

If you mean radius in terms of world map tiles that affect the map, no.

If you mean how far the bordering biomes intrude into the local map, you can adjust that by editing "Biome Transitions" in the landform editor provided by Geological Landforms.

Hello, not sure if this was asked before, but is there a way to increase the radios of Biome detection ? Tried digging trough configs but could not figure it out.

Thanks for your update about oddessy as I did come across a multi-biome location whilst testing out my mod list and wondered if it meant that this mod was not needed anymore.

Glad to see you updated it!

Whoops I just tried to report a bug that I realised immediately afterwards had nothing to do with this mod my bad. Instead I'll just say how much I love this mod. :)

@FarmerJoe

Yes, for that you need to actually settle on that biome. Transitions only affect terrain, plants and animals.

does the biome specific feature (like Odyssey glowforest no day time etc. or Lava zone burning/flooding) require you to actually settle on said biome? or having it adjacent also affect your map too?

@The Lost Cake

Because this is an add-on for Geological Landforms, built on the map generation framework it provides. This mod itself does not contain any code, only additional data for Geological Landforms to use.

What problem do you have with using Geological Landforms? Content that overlaps with the Odyssey DLC is automatically disabled when the DLC is active.

Why does this require Geological Landforms? I'm not a fan of the vanilla implementation of multi-biome maps and would love to use this mod instead but i do prefer the vanilla implementation of the landmarks.

I'll take a look, thank you! Sorry if my comment came off as snippy.
