Miao Ying vs Slaanesh face off (campaign balance) [Immortal Empires & Realms of Chaos]

Description
A campaign balance of the game's "potential" system to strengthen all Slaanesh aligned factions if you are playing as Maio Ying, and Strengthen Maio Ying if you are playing as N'Kari/Azazel/Sigvald.

Check out my other mod Miao Ying vs Slaanesh (Immortal Empires start positions) for altered start positions to place N'kari, Azazel, and Sigvald closer to Miao Ying. [/b]

What "potential" is
To understand what the mod does you need to understand the "potential" system and how the base game buffs certain factions. A faction's "potential" equates to the strength of its economy cheats. In the base Realms of Chaos campaign:
  • All WH3 races get buffs
  • All playable WH3 races get a 2nd buff
  • Certain playable WH3 races get a 3rd "hostility" buff depending on the human player faction. If you play Cathay/Kislev, all Ogres and Demons get a buff. If you play Demons, Cathay/Kislev get a buff, along with sometimes Ogres and whatever Demon faction is ideologically opposed to yours.

This mod only messes with the 3rd round of "hostility" buffs, and is compatible with anything that doesn't change the values shown in the "faction_potential_difficulty_overrides_tables". SFO now modifies the same table, so If you want to make sure this mod works, load it above SFO or any other overhaul mods. The diplomacy, starting treasury, and extra territory buffs are scripts that will be compatible with any mod.

What this mod does exactly
If the player is N'Kari/Azazel/Sigvald
  • (RoC only) Start with diplomatic contact (war) with Northern Provinces.
  • (RoC only) The Northern Provinces start with control of extra territory in Cathay and the Chaos Wastes.
  • (IE & RoC) The Northern Provinces get significant "potential" bonuses scaling with campaign difficulty.
  • (IE & RoC) Northern Provinces bonus starting treasury

If the player is Maio Ying
  • (RoC only) Start with diplomatic contact (war) with Seducers of Slaanesh.
  • (RoC only) Seducers of Slaanesh start with control of a large swath of the Chaos Wastes.
  • (IE & RoC) Sigvald/Azazel/N'Kari, Subtle Torture, and Exquisite Pain get significant "potential" bonuses scaling with campaign difficulty.
  • (IE & RoC) Sigvald/Azazel/N'Kari bonus starting treasury

If the player is Any Faction
  • (IE & RoC) Diplomatic affinity boost between Slaanesh, Warriors of Chaos, and Beastmen

It only buffs Miao if you start as N'Kari/Azazel/Sigvald. you could edit the db/faction_potential_difficulty_overrides_tables to add in Daniel's faction if you wanted.

Mod makes Miao Ying invisible on the map in ROC campaign.

I think it's a great system for RoC, it meant your campaigns always ended in a face off with a powerful lore appropriate foe.

Many thanks! After getting more info about this system I think CA released a monster.

@grunt, check out the table in my screenshot for the mod, that's literally all it is, so to #1 yes,
#2 it is a fixed buff to create an archenemy to your faction as you stated.
#3 the buff is fixed based on campaign difficulty.
#4 yes is is a table value, although many different tables contribute to it, and there is some random roll that is determined at the start of the campaign. Potential should always make hard difficulties harder however. It is why legendary factions gobble up smaller ones. But note that the "hostility" buff (faction potential difficulty override table) I reference is only a feature of the Realms of Chaos Campaign, and not in Immortal Empires by default.

Hey, I found your explanation of the potential system quite intriguing. May I ask you for some clarifications?

1. When you said "This mod only messes with the 3rd round of "hostility"buffs", do you mean the 3rd category of potential you named?

2. Assuming you only meant the buff to the 3rd potential category, which you named as "hostility" buff, do you know the nature of its reliance to the player? More precise: Is it a fixed buff at the start of the game to create an archenemy to your faction or does it give hostile factions a buff depending on the player strength?

3. If it is a buff in accordance to strength, is the triggering factor the "relation", a "war declaration" or some hidden value?

4. Is faction potential in general just a margin like a table with values, that need to get triggered by other routines? This would explain why some people have absolute hell on earth on lower difficulties while the higher difficulties can turn out to be much easier.
