The steamer "ABBOTSFORD" launched in 1866 was one of the largest steamers of TT&NC at the time of her launch, only beaten by the company's class of express liners.

As she was being fitted out the press appeared to love her, with her luxurious interiors being detailed in many papers around the U.S. and England. Though this press soon faded after her maiden voyage, where it was noted that even for a steamer of that time the trip in "steerage" class was incredibly uncomfortable to the point of being unbearable.

She had an uneventful career until her sinking in 1901, the conditions of which are still unclear even to this day. She departed overloaded with cargo far beyond her capacity, and about 293 aboard. All went down with the ship.
