Auster Town Template Pack

Description
This package contains town buildings for the Auster theme.

Auster is a simple stone-and-wood theme, prominently featuring dark stone arches, hearty stone walls, mandatory fireplaces for the cold north, and typically wooden second floors and roofs. The simple coloration and patterns were chosen for the Northern Alliance and make a fantastic base for lots of plants and decor.

Auster Village template pack (contains many utility templates like a fountain and windmill, I highly recommend using it to complement your town): https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828095995

This town pack is mostly comprised of two-story buildings designed to be placed in rows end-to-end. All workshops include ample storage and advanced work stations. Living quarters above the workshops are unfurnished, but most have space for more than one hearthling to live comfortably.

Care has been taken to construct buildings from basic walls and floors where possible. This makes buildings easy to recolor to match your tastes; even the arches are carved from walls so they can be recolored at the click of a button. The main exceptions to this rule are the roofs and stairs, which are necessarily constructed from individual blocks due to their more complex and custom nature.

I highly recommend the use of Finery mod, I like to use its juniper and pine wood furnishes with Auster. I also typically use iron candle holders indoors and iron lanterns outdoors. I suggest adding some side windows and extending the roof a block or two on any workshop you intend to use at the end of a row.

Be sure to modify furniture selections to match what your town has available before clicking "build"! Remember to assign your supply containers/shelves and the finished product shelf once construction is complete.

All template names are prefixed with "Auster" and include "town" for searching purposes.

Included templates
  • Auster Town Apartments: two upstairs and two downstairs individual units in one neat building. There is enough space to cramp two hearthlings in one apartment if you need, but they'll be very happy individually with room for full furnishings!
  • Auster Town Blacksmith: advanced furnace, anvil, and crucible with more than enough supply containers for two of each ore (behind the furnace), two of each ingot (front storage area), and containers next to the crucible meant to contain charcoal and coke fuel. Features a stone animal door to help mitigate the heat during the few warm days in the north that can be manually closed in the winter.
  • Auster Town Burner : an add-on building that fits neatly behind the blacksmith, with a burner and containers for making fuel.
  • Auster Town Engineer: a simple little workshop with an engineer bench and lots of supply containers to keep all of those ingots and gears on hand.
  • Auster Town Herbalist: an herbalist cauldron and workbench with a lot of supply containers. I like to assign each of the eight categories of herbs their own shelf. A spiral staircase leads to the roof, where a rooftop planter garden can be used to fully supply your town with its herbal needs. I would suggest one of the chests be assigned to contain only healing items and tonics, while the other serves as overflow herb storage.
  • Auster Town Joiner: a neat little workshop with a joiner bench and workstation immediately surrounded by more supply storage than you'll likely need for the current joiner recipes.
  • Auster Town Large Inn: the larger of two town inns, this mammoth building includes a kitchen plus dining and gathering space on the first floors, with eight multi-bed quarters across the second and third floors. If you're looking to attract many travelers from afar, build one of these. I'm particularly proud of the finished work shelf in the kitchen wall that acts like a serving window.
  • Auster Town Mason: this workshop has a nice stone bay window to allow your mason great lighting on their workspace. As you expect by now, supply containers abound.
  • Auster Town Potter: a simple pottery studio with an opening kiln room.
  • Auster Town Weaver: a spinning wheel, loom, and workbench organized to work clockwise from the back wall starting with raw fiber, then thread and pelts, and finally cloth and leather to craft those finished products.
  • Auster End Townhouse (Left and Right, separately, as you look at the front of the building): These six-block-wide two-story townhouses are meant to cap off a row of town buildings. They fit a bed and dresser upstairs and other happiness-inducing furnishings downstairs. One wall is left open and fits snugly against other town buildings.

Planned templates

In no particular order:

  • The other town inn - I designed (before the current one) another smaller town inn, but it needs refined and normalized for this template pack. Kitchen, dining, 5 smaller guest rooms - some of which support 2 beds - and an apartment for a cook.
  • Bakery - bread factory and storage
  • Deli - cheese factory and cold food storage
  • Fishmonger - guess.
  • Some sort of kitchen possibly, I'm not certain though as both inns are designed to handle general food and dining.
  • Tavern - drink and food storage with dining
  • Brewery - add-on to the tavern intended for brewing mead
  • Coffee house - juice/tea/coffee brewery and a little seating
  • Storage building - possibly as an add-on for the back of any workshop.
  • Corner buildings - probably just apartments or maybe storage
  • Other blacksmith - I am proud of the current one but it has significantly more depth than any other workshop to keep it from being super-wide, so I have an idea for a second, wider blacksmith that may just fit better into your town layout.
  • Geomancer workshop

Design concept
I aimed to design buildings for an advanced and well-developed town, able to support all master crafters and a large population efficiently. I aimed to keep a relatively small footprint for most while also allowing enough walking room (at least two blocks wide) for all walking paths so nothing should feel cramped. Ample windows are included where possible, but I also wanted to avoid looking like windows were shoved in just to have more windows.

I have attempted to provide enough supply containers for each resource each crafter may need on hand for the majority of their recipes, which greatly assists efficiency. You'll also find a finished work shelf handy so they don't need to walk far between crafting items. Thematically, workshops that don't have a furnace or stove have their own fireplace for warmth. Particularly hot workshops like the blacksmith and potter have the manually-controlled animal doors to allow for a cool breeze. Fancier front doors and standard back doors are included for workshops, so you can have a pretty town up front but access from behind for supplies.

Feel free to provide suggestions for additional buildings or extras!
