Description
FOR VERSION 1.2!
My take on the Swordfish bomber/torpedo bomber.
It's an approximation and not a 1:1 replica.
Working machine gun for navigator.

Alt controls to fly.
W/S: Variable throttle
A/D: Steering ground/Yaw
Arrow up/down: Pitch
Arrow left/right: Roll
Num 1/Mouse 1: Forward machine gun
Num2: Torpedo *

Camera 1: Torpedo view.

* Torpedo starts engine 1.5 seconds after drop and burns for 90 seconds. Go low and slow when releasing and keep the nose up a bit to reduce the risk of the torpedo going downwards.

If speed indicator on dashboard turns from green to red you are going too fast to drop the torpedo (sort of).

The actual torpedo used by the Swordfish didn't have the fins but they are needed to make it stay under water, at least usually.

Top speed at full throttle is too high but necessary for being able to execute tighter turns since planes lose so much speed while turning.

Indeed.

Also the torpedo's behavious in water is... interesting sometimes.

Yeah the torpedo is tricky to get to work, but if you fly just above the surface then pull up slightly and drop the torpedo it works like 6 or 7 times out of 10, but the randomness of the detonators and how things are dropped (shooting backwards, forwards, sideways) is sadly very much still a "feature" in the game.
I find my Float Torpedo bi-plane bomber is a bit easier to control and you can almost skim the surface with the floats when releasing the torpedo so it's a little easier to get it right. But the random freak-out of course still occurrs too often.

i said that because the torpedo sometimes randomly changes driection

tinath64 LOL it sort of works so ships can be sunk even though the flying is... interesting. :)

if the aerodinamics were better i would have been sinking ships all the time with this thing

I just spent 4+ hours trying to get my Stuka flyable in 1.2 and the best I could do was to get it to fly randomly across the screen, one second a LOT of lift, the next negative lift, one second it rolls like a spinning top, the next it barely moves. It flutters around like an injured butterfly with broken wings basically. The best parts were A that dropping the 1000+ kg bombs made the plane MORE nose heavy and it just went downward (no aerodynamic parts on the bombs to explain that gem), and B when I got stuck in an eternity loop that I could only get out of by cutting the engine and free fall (I'm guessing that is caused by the different lift att different angles but MAN is that "feature" not dialled in properly).
So yeah the aerodynamics need to be fixed ASAP. And hopefully separated completely from the water fluid dynamics. But since it's a one man show who knows when or even if that ever happens. :(

Alright, thanks! Yeah the constantly changing aero is a pain.
