Shark Transformation

Description
This pack replaces the werewolf transformation with a shark one, including NPC werewolves as well.

(Replacing the Merfolk sprite unfortunately doesn't work)

"Wait, why doesn't this replace the Merfolk sprite?"
In short, this happens when I replace the Merfolk sprite;

The 'player head sprite' always renders under the 'Merfolk head sprite', and you don't notice that in the default game, because the Merfolk head is big enough to cover the 'player head sprite' completely. Most vanity and armors work in this way, simply covering player skin files that still render underneath.
However, both the Werewolf and Merfolk transformations causes the skin files not to render - though the Merfolk for some reason still renders the 'head' part of the skin sprites, as of 1.4.

The problem I specifically have is that I'd have to cover up the player head with my shark sprite, which I've tried and I cannot make it look good. There's also other complicated things to factor in. For example, using the head slot for the body (instead of the legs being the body as it is right now) would require some 3D chess to properly sprite in a way that doesn't look stiff when holding or using a weapon.
In a last ditch effort, I had to replace the werewolf instead since it doesn't render the player head like this.

If Re-Logic alters the 'head skin' file to not render during the Merfolk transformation, I will replace the Merfolk sprite instead, which would be really cool! It's what I meant to do, and it would make this pack way more thematically cohesive.

Want to look like the enemy sprite?
If you want to look like the enemy sprite (the Wereshark), there's an alternate version accessible in the workshop folder you get by subscribing. If you don't know how to access the workshop folder, searching "how to locate steam workshop folder" should get you where you need to be. There's a readme you'll find in the pack with further instructions on how to swap things around.

Version without the cyclone and pedestal (Use at your own risk)

Click here for a version without the cyclone and pedestal!

Warning: The reason the whirlwind and "statue"-esque standing pedestal exists in this pack, is to ground the whole flying shark thing, but also to visually show that the character is still three blocks tall. Without the cyclone-whirlwind, measuring your height becomes harder.

Small note: sitting, lying down, petting, and holding a guitar doesn't look too pretty, but pretty much everything else looks like it should!

If I had known the head thing beforehand, I would've made something more land-based instead. Though I am still glad I could salvage it in some way! Let me know if there's something that can be improved.

@calvinosinclair
Unfortunately no, that still renders the head skin.
Every armor piece in the game still render skin files underneath (with 5-ish legpieces being the exception). It'd be wonderful if they didn't, though! Could take a lot more creative liberties with armor sprites in general if that was the case.

if you resprite a helmet or mask as completely transparent, could you wear it to remove the head skin?

You may be able to fix this, by having a Side Mod that hides the players head when certain requirements are met. Now, in hindsight, this doesnt seem very efficient, as its more work when you can just render it over werewolf.

thanks i really dislike the design of werewolves in vanilla

Because

1. I'd have to change the fish design to encompass the entire player head (I tried this but couldn't land on a good design at all). There are more pixels to cover than you think.

2. The fish would slide around when swinging and be stuck in its standing pose. If you swung in the air, I suspect you'd also be in the standing pose. It'd look too janky I think.

Thanks for the suggestion though, I appreciate the thought!

wait why don't you make the entire fish the merfolk head?
