Lore:
A species of large reptiles from the surface of the Tr'allanga home world.

Unlike their cousins in the swamps; these giant reptiles are herbivorous and live entirely on land, unable to swim at all due to their sheer weight.

Diet consists mainly of leafy green plants and root vegetables they dig up using their horns.

Girma Rigi'raak are pack animals; staying close together for protection.

Speaking of protection; the Girma Rigi'raak has a powerful clubbed tail, a thick hard shell covered in spikes and a large horn protruding from its head.

These 3 points of defence make hunting the Girma Rigi'raak rather difficult for most predators.

These creatures have a lifespan of 60-75 years and become sexually mature adults at age 20.

Regarding reproduction; these animals have a similar method to the Dira'phon.

During the summer herds will meet up; the males impress the females with dances and they mate with whatever females likes their dance.

But after the Girma Rigi'raak mates; instead of the female staying with the males herds; the male will join the females herd and pair with her.

Then 3 months later; the herd will stop somewhere and the pregnant females of that group will use their tails to make nests where they will lay their eggs; often covering said nests with bits of foliage to hide them from smaller predators.

The male and female will share guarding the eggs so they can eat and rest for the next 4 months; then the eggs hatch into new born Girma Rigi'raak; which will follow their parents closely for protection.

This is because; unlike adult Girma Rigi'raak, the new born babies have soft shells, no tail club and are much easier prey.

But once those babies reach around 5 years old; they stop following their parents and just move with the herd; as by this time their tail club will be fully developed and their big enough to fend of most predators.

Biology notes:

Life on the Tr'allanga home world took a very different evolutionary path, arthropods becoming the dominant species as a result, further elaboration here:

This particular animal, and its smaller cousin; both evolved from a later ancestor of the Rigi'Lakter (Solid Mauler); seen at around 1:49 in the video.
