Nice! So the concept actually worked then? It looks brilliant!
Sorry, you're right, I didn't see this comment! I just came back to Stellaris modding after a break. I did publish a personal/friend use of my hex-wrapped RE-Fleet mod edit. My colors are more of a midnight, too, like the player's units' nameplates are midnight green.
I don't mod Stellaris full-time or year-round, though. I just make mods for myself & my friends. So, I can give you access if you wanna friend me, but I don't make any guarantees regarding the frequency or consistency of updates in the long-term!
That's it, you're a hero.
I saw a similar mod some time ago but then I noticed it lacks the flags.
I thought - sure it's neat and all, but I don't want to throw away functionality.
The flag in your mod does support the same "click to contact" functionality as vanilla, right?
I LOVE your hp/shield/hull wrapping idea. Did your project ever go anywhere?
Somehow I doubt he'll even see this message.
- Diagonal progress bars that wrap around the 3 side of the hexagon's left half, so that each HP bar is parallel to one of the three sides of the hexagon (i.e. the top & bottom bars are diagonal, while the middle bar is vertical)
- Double-sided flares. Mirrored the original flare with the transparent gradient, so now the hexagon is in the middle between two flares extending to the sides.
- Extended transparency gradient. Not really a design in itself, but me & my friend both felt that, in the original design, the flare's transparency should extend a little further before becoming imperceptible, ideally closer to the end of the military power number.
I also sketched a bunch of different ideas, although most of the ones that were good enough to test fizzled out pretty fast for one reason or another. Take a look!

Hey again! You mentioned if I made something better... Well, I came up with something you might be interested in. The only design change I've gotten to a finalized state in terms of being ready to ship in a mod is a tweak on the HP bars: diagonal progress bars that wrap around the 3 side of the hexagon's left half. I showed it to my best friend, and he definitely prefers this version over the original vertical HP bars. Here's basically what the diagonal progress bars look like:

You're right, the tweaks I made to those bars aren't very suitable for screens other than 1080p.
My initial thoughts were similar to what you said, but I gave up after looking at the code. I also tried to modify the icon's .dds file, but it is often modified by other mods to add their custom objects and I really want to avoid compatibility issues.
So this mod is just a compromise and I would really appreciate it if you could make something better.
