Heat Dome

Description
Tired of the cold? Boy howdy! Heat Dome turns up the thermostat for scorching conditions all year round.
While intentionally balanced for hardcore environmental survival settings ('hot', 'very dry' weathers with poor crop yield and fast spoilage in the sandbox), standard play modes - especially during the summer - should also offer a challenge for most players.
To better evoke a sense of oppressive heat, all fog is disabled and higher temperatures are reflected through changes to environmental lighting.
An included sub-mod, 'heatstroke' increases the risks of raising your character's core temp above 40°C (104°F) through excessive exertion or inappropriate clothing.
Inspired by Path's Cryogenic Winter mod.

@OG sorry, it's been a while since i wrote this but iirc if you set up the sandbox for a colder climate, it'll adjust the temperatures accordingly. everything was setup around running a '4 - hot' climate, so setting it to '2 - cold' should give you a bearable winter without rendering summer too safe

hello, are you able to modify the intensity of the heat dome? i wanted to run it for a server to have it more mild in the winter and intense in the summertime

@oloolo1661 if you want to simulate high temperatures impacting growth, yes. there's no change to the base nature state, or growth patterns. as mentioned in the description, i balanced it around sandbox settings of hot, very dry, poor crop yield and fast spoilage. since these elements of high temperatures are already available in the game engine, i didn't feel the need to implement them differently through the mod.

hi, do i have to change nature settings in the config when using this mod?

@Smith glad you're enjoying it! and yes, death is *sort of* preventable... but the full heatstroke experience is fairly unforgiving. it's been a while since i put the mod together so specifics elude me at this point, but generally you'll be okay if you take things gently. however, once you get too hot — basically any sustained exertion with a body temp around 40°C/104°F or higher — you start a cascade which requires a *significant* chill ASAP to counteract. and, if i recall correctly, you'll also ramp your thirst into overdrive, which further complicates matters. basically, you need to manage your body temp to stay below 40°C except for the briefest possible moments of life-or-death exertion. doing anything more than short, careful bursts of high-intensity activities outside, e.g. chopping logs, or carrying much weight at all, is a one-way ticket to a very bad time

I'm enjoying the mod on a private MP run. The orange filter is nice, and this has me not using cryo for once.

What exactly does heatstroke do? My friends' health bars were dropping rapidly when they were at 40°C.

Is death from heatstroke preventable if you get inside in a reasonable amount of time?

heatdome definitely works in local & dedicated MP, havent tried heatstroke in dedicated but it seems to work in local MP. im using it with weather manager to make it hot & rainy with no issues.

the fog thing is too much effort for me when my goal is MP lol but i'll be fine without it, thanks for letting me know how tho

@Lord Inter CrazyDuck's better vehicle heaters mod might be a good fit for what you need, though i've not tested it myself

@homekeys hey i'm not really in a position to be working on this at the moment, but if you're keen to fiddle around, it's a simple edit to make. head to wherever your steam workshop mods are downloaded and 108600 is zomboid, 2850355053 is my heatdome mod (e.g. for me that's at D:SteamLibrary\steamapps\workshop\content\108600\2850355053\mods\heatdome\media\lua\client\ ).

dig around in there for the heatdome.lua and delete or edit the line 20 ImprovedFog.setBaseAlpha(0) . that should get you where you're going
