Description
FOR VERSION 1.2!
It's now fully made of oak and some aluminium instead of mainly foam, some oak and some aluminium and it flies pretty well . Without the bombs though it feels a bit like flying a modern unstable plane without the help of the computer but it's as stable as I can get it while still being able to fly it with the bombs.

I also reworked the bomb trapeze mechanism to help it get the bomb away from the plane in a steep dive. It's no longer Physics driven but the actuator pushes the bomb out and the instead of falling off like before returns to it's resting position, more akin to the real thing.

Only the upper air-brakes are now fluid dynamics pieces since the plane will just flip forward otherwise.

My version of the Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless aircraft carrier based dive bomber (SBD - Scout Bomber Douglas).
It's an approximation, not a 1:1 replica.

This is the same plane as my Douglas A-24 Banshee but with a different paint scheme and this version has an arrestor hook for carrier landings.

It's armed with 2 machine guns in the engine cowling, 2 rear machine guns manned by the navigator, 1 1600 lb bomb under the fuselage released with a bomb cradle to avoid the propeller, and 1 325 lb bomb under each wing.

This carrier based plane did not have folding wings since the wings needed to be robust for dive bombing.

Alt controls to fly.
W/S: Variable throttle.
A/D: Yaw and ground steering.
LUp/Down arrow: Pitch.
Left/Right arrow: Roll.
X/Disable steering: Landing gear.
Hold X/Invert steering: Air brakes.
Fire action 1/Num 1: Machine guns.
Fire action 2/Num 2: 1600 lb bomb.*
Fire action 3-4/Num 3-4: 325 lb bombs.
Fire action 8/Num 8: Arrestor hook.

Rear machine gun uses Alt controls.
Up/Down arrow / Mouse: Aim up/down.
Left/Right arrow / Mouse: Aim side to side.
Fire action 1/Num 1: Fire.

Camera 1: Rear machine guns for better visibility.
Camera 2: 1600 lb bomb so you can check your aim.

* To dive bomb approach at altitude (400+ metres), reduce throttle, apply air brakes, go into a steep dive (60-80 degrees), aim and drop the 1600 lb bomb. A green light in the cockpit will indicate the bomb's been released and it's time to pull up. The cradle will swing back up into place ready for a new bomb to be fitted.
Don't forget to retract the air brakes!

there's a newer version?

I'd think the newer version works better in 1.7....

First a note: This version is for 1.2 and will NOT work properly in 1.3 or later versions of the game, so I'm not sure why you're commenting on this versio of the plane. :)
The TBD-1 is on my long list of planes (over 70) but I have no idea when or if I'll get to it. The aeordynamics in the game is so bad that I'm rapidly losing the will to build more planes tbh, so as I said I have no idea when I might get to it.
I have a, far from perfect but at least working, TBM/TBF Avenger that'll have to do for now I'm afraid. But use the 1.3 version. ;)

Well F4 U too. 😉 I'll take a look at the Corsair in the next few days. Working on the Kate now and it has a torpedo so is a bit fidgety to get to work.
