Loyalty Revamp - Stay Loyal

Description
Disclaimer: Due to some database changes, this mod may not work as intended at the moment, I have no ETA on an update, and an update may not happen as I don't currently play the game, nor have it installed.

I disliked the loyalty system in TW:Warhammer II, but instead of the cheaty loyalty disabler mod I did for that, I wanted to revamp the system to something that makes a bit more sense and doesn't punish you for playing YOUR way.

So here's my take on a revamp of the loyalty system, where everyone is loyal until the end.

Basically, the idea is that you have to earn the loyalty of your recruits, but they will "Stay Loyal". Once they reach the necessary level to put the system to good use, you can reap the reward of earning loyalty. Loyalty won't skyrocket in 2 rounds, but it shouldn't take forever either.

A detailed reader friendly list of changes can be read in the discussion thread.

Feel free to let me know how it works for you, and give me your thoughts in the comment.

Intetesting, I'll have to reinstall the game and check this, putting that on my todo list.

VC Loyalty locked in at 1 and won't raise which makes offices impossible to fill. Also, only LL's can disband a unit, generic lords are stuck with whatever they recruit and can only make space through unit swap or casualty consolidations.

The footprint of the mod is so small, that any update to the game shouldn't break anything, so unless you experience something actually not working with the mod, then it'll be fine, even if flagged as out of date.. I don't play the game these days so I don't feel like downloading it just to upload the exact same files ^^

Well after recruiting a new lord as the VCoast, and them raising dead and disbanding over 50 units in that one army in a single turn, I think I can safely say that whatever you did has fixed the issue. Much thanks Nez! :er_heart:

Thanks a bunch Nez, I'll try it out and see what happens and let you know.

I found some things in the data files that seemed relevant, some negative values that had to do with a few things linked to loyalty, a few had to do with defection chance or something, I added it in and set all negative values to 0, hopefully that should implement the changes.

I don't actively play the game, but I do feel a responsibility in updating the mod when needed, so my testing goes as far as checking that nothing broke, and the game boots up ^^

So please leave feedback if it did indeed work, or if it's still borked... If it is, then I'm not sure what I can change, but least then we know, until I may or may not figure it out, fingers crossed ^^

Been a while since I dug into the files, but when I have time I'll have a look around and see if anything stands out, I don't recall seeing anything referring to defection when I put the mod together, so to my knowledge, any defection based mechanics shouldn't be affected... But I could be completely off :P I'll have a look soon.

While using this mod, I've found that while the loyalty won't "lower" per se, if I repeatedly dismiss units from the army of a general as the Vampire Coast, there seems to be a chance that they will suddenly defect.

As the Vampire Coast as well, I've also found for lords for which "recruiting" has a chance to increase their loyalty, Raise Dead doesn't seem to be included in this. That's fine, most of the time, but combined with the other issue I mentioned, late game it becomes regularly necessary to recruit a new lord, transfer the troops, and then send the one I don't want anymore off to die somewhere. Which, while somewhat amusing, is frustrating to deal with.

Perhaps looking at whatever controls loss of loyalty/defection related to dismissing troops may solve the issue?
