Before We Start:
Turn “Infinite Fuel” and “Infinite Electric” off for this to work properly!

This works with Better Ammo! “Infinite Ammo” is not needed!

Meet the Nachthund Air Defense Fighter:
With the Nachtjager entering combat came a whole list of aircraft’s problems. The aircraft was ill-suited for interception as it was slow and heavy, and the armament was excessive.

Weiclift Luftfahrt quickly introduced the Mk.1b, but the Luftwaffe had no desire to field the Nachtjager in air-to-air roles again, so the Mk.1b was refitted with new anti-tank guns and a refined engine and was presented as a ground-attack aircraft.

The new Mk.1b was accepted into ground combat, then quickly taken out of operation status. The Mk.1b was not durable enough for its work, and heavy combat losses came with heavy crew losses. For one aircraft lost, up to three airmen could be lost. Something the late-war Luftwaffe couldn’t afford.

A hasty modification removed the navigator’s position but left the pilot with no way to control the radar nor navigate in poor conditions. Training was also a nightmare as the cockpit was over-complicated.

Hoping to save their reputation, Weiclift tried one last time to make a fighter, and it worked. They called it the “Nachtund” (Night Hound). It was much faster and lighter, and was a one-seater with all of the same equipment as the Nachtjager complete with an easier cockpit, contra-rotating propellers, and the same loud droning of the engine.
Operation:
Overview:
This is an “Air Defense Fighter”, not a dogfighter. Its job is to take out bombers, not one-seater piston-engine fighters and fighter jets. Don’t expect it to maneuver like a Spitfire, either. The engine can burn, so stay on cruise until you engage an aircraft. And I know the engine is loud.
Take-Off:
  • Use the wing or the pilot seat to enter the cockpit.
  • Turn on the “Battery”, “Engine 1”, “Engine 2”, and “Release Brakes” switches.
  • Close the canopy.
  • Gun the throttle. This aircraft has crazy STOL capabilities so you don’t need much runway.
Weapon Usage:
  • This aircraft carries four 20mm autocannons configured in a bullet-saving ripple-fire mode.
  • To use the guns, turn to the left of the cockpit and turn on the “Arm 20mm Autocannons” switch.
  • If you have the “Better Ammo” addon installed, this thing gets a lot more ammo.
Radar and Map:
  • To turn on the radar, turn on the “Radar” switch.
  • It won’t show a scanning sweep as the radar is static and has a narrow FOV to keep it realistic.
  • Press the “Change Channel” switch to switch to the map.
  • The aircraft’s GPS coordinates are displayed by dials under the top-most switches.
Specifications:
  • Top Speed (Level Flight): ~220 Knots
  • Cruise Throttle: .60
  • Fuel Capacity: (Per Tank): ~2271 Liters
  • Range at Full Throttle: ~71 Minutes; ~481 Kilometers
  • Range at Cruise Throttle: ~138 Minutes; ~731 Kilometers
  • Crew: 1 Pilot
  • Armament: 4x 20mm Autocannons, 10x illumination flares
  • XML Content: Light (16 Parts)

Updates:

  • Fixed the guns, now they actually fire.
  • Changed ammo types in the 20mm gun, moved flares, and added an ammo reloading hatch.
  • Completely removed flares all-together.
  • Really fixed guns this time. Replaced 20mm guns with 40mm guns.
