Valkia Tech Fixes

Description
UPDATE: This mod's changes were updated and rolled into my comprehensive Warriors of Chaos tech adjustments mod:

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2871900770

You can still download this one, but if you use the other one you don't need to use this one, since everything here is included, and more stuff is added.

TL;DR:

Skullcrushers get magical attacks and 10 armor from the tech tree. Bloodthirsters and Soul Grinders get gorefeast from the tech tree. "Unchained Beasts" now gives Flesh Hounds and Norscan Vassal Wolves 10% speed and gorefeast at rank 4. "Dark Diplomacy" now reduces the upkeep of all Norscan, Skaven, and Beastmen vassal units in your army by 20%.

This mod changes 5 things in the Tech tree for the Legion of the Gorequeen.

1) Dark Diplomacy: A big part of Warriors of Chaos (in theory) is the concept of vassals. Instead of conquering territory yourself, you vassalize factions around Dark Fortesses and then use their units to supplement your army, completing missions for allegiance points (again, in theory). There are several techs devoted to this so it's clear vassal units were an intentional part of Warriors of Chaos play. It has two problems though: allied units always cost more than your units and they don't get combat benefits from tech or lords, so they are always weaker.

If you are like me you can spend 95% of your campaign with every vassal at 100 allegiance points because there's no point in recruiting their units.

This mod changes Dark Diplomacy so that it reduces the upkeep cost of all Norscan, Skaven, and Beastmen vassal units in your army by 20%. That means that they will always be cheaper than your regular roster - if a little weaker - unless you have maximum Chaos Authority, at which point they will be equal in cost.

2) Profane Weaponry (which used to only affect Chaos Knights) now affects Skullcrushers (and the regiment of renown as well). This was a necessary change for me since this upgrade was making skullcrushers worse at fighting demonic units than the chaos knight.

3) Inscribed Armor was giving chaos knights armor but - again - not skullcrushers. This meant skullcrushers were squishier and that didn't feel intentional to me. Also it's just aesthetically bothersome to have an "upgraded" unit lose armor. So the +10 armor is now enjoyed by skullcrushers. In fact, it will be enjoyed by anything riding a Juggernaut! Including your lords and heroes while they are using a Juggernaut mount.

4) Unchained Beasts: I made two changes to this tech. One aimed at Chaos and the other at their primary Vassal, the Norscans.

First, I included the Flesh Hounds as beneficiaries of rank 4 gorefeast, since they are meant to be a direct upgrade to warhounds. However, instead of giving them the attack bonus that the warhounds get I chose to give them a small speed boost, since it results in more interesting play than a straight damage buff.

Secondly, in the spirit of showing love to our favorite non-Chaos devotees, and since there isn't a skill or tech bonus that affects any Chaos vassal unit currently in the game, I chose to give Norscan wolf units the same buff that I included for Flesh Hounds. Norscan wolves are a popular unit for the AI and you will find them readily accessible in most outpost locations you build.

So any frostwolves or skinwolves you recruit into your army after researching this tech will have +10% speed and - upon reaching rank 4 - will regenerate slightly while engaged in combat.

5) Sword-Maiden: It bothered me that the ostensibly "best units" for the Khorne WoC faction didn't have any upgrades in the tech tree. So I made a single change that I felt was on flavor: Sword-Maiden now grants "Gorefeast" to Bloodthirsters, Soul Grinders, and Aspiring Champions, instead of just Aspiring Champions.

Making this mod drew my attention to some similar oversights in other Warriors of Chaos units (like the Tzeentch Doom Knights that don't benefit from the Knight armor upgrade). Instead of rolling those changes into this mod, I'm going to leave this mod as is and make a more comprehensive general Warriors of Chaos mod that fixes Belakor and the 4 individual factions altogether, which will include the Valkia changes I've already made, but make other small changes and tweeks. It will include stuff that's not really an oversight but more in the vein of balancing - like slightly lowering the armor you get from iron so that you don't feel compelled to doomstack 19 chaos warriors cuz that's the best unit.

I'll post a link to it when I upload it.

i actually use my own mod that fixes the skill tree for speed and malice and hammer and anvil, and the only reason i hadn't posted it is because i saw that someone had already made an effective mod for it with that fix in the title.

i will release mine though in my full skill tree mod, which will also include basic Norscan units in the Chaos skill tree bonuses (e.g. so your norscan marauders you recruit from allies aren't missing 12 armor and 8 attack at rank 1)

Thanks! It's a lot of work and I'm happy with how it's turning out! I made the most recent mod's screenshots clearer by color-coding them, and I try to explain not just the changes but the thought process. I'm glad to hear clarity makes a difference for people!

The bloodgreed passive ability lacking at Gorebeast Chariot of Khorne not only the Skullcrushers.

Could you do the repair to Speed and Malice and Hammer into Anvil Lord skills at Skullcrushers and Knights at the Brazen Throne?

In Vain in tier 7+ rank the Skullcrushers not give the Speed and Malice skill bonuses, the Hammer into Anvil working at Skullcrushers, but at Knights at the Brazen Throne both skill ineffektíve. It maybe be wrong for another faction units, i play only Valkia from Champion of Chaos DLC.

it's not a problem if you don't deal with it. This Lord skill repair already exist as a mod, but it is outdated (it still works), it won't even be updated.

This, the Valkia Vanguard deployment and the WoC Tech Adjustement are gap filling mods, with logical and well explained innovations great work man and tank you.

yo, thanks for reminding me about that... That was really bothering me when I first discovered it... I just rolled out my new mod for WoC tech adjustments and fixes (link is in the updated description of this mod) so I'll prolly add that change tomorrow, but I'll definitely add it cuz they should totally have blood greed when the "Marked units" gift is active.

I already fixed the Raider's Rainment bug where it wasn't affecting marauder units you recruited from an ally... that stand-alone mod is in the description as well

hey man any chance you could give skullcrushers blood greed, says that every marked unit should get it but skullcrushers dont.

yes but I'm going to wrap that into an overall WoC mod.

I'm working on one for the tech tree that addresses shortcomings in the vassals as well as the special units in the 4 Champions factions all at once.

I'm also making a separate mod that redoes the strategic resource bonuses for all the chaos units to include most of their roster, and lowers the benefit from iron, since right now you feel compelled to just stack iron buildings and doomstack chaos warriors.

I'm gonna post them when they are complete in the next couple days

You gonna make similar adjustments for the other gods by any chance?

@GrumpyBadger That's a fair point about the Fleshhounds. I'll probably add that in as well.

Following the other changes, could the "Unchained Beasts" tech that gives Chaos Hounds and Manticore the Gorefeast ability be changed to apply to the Flesh Hounds as well?
