Welcome back, commanders! If you used this mod in Total War: Warhammer 2, then you already know what the deal is. For everyone else, read on:




The Rise of Grom

What? If you play as ELTHARION THE GRIM, then Greenskin invasions of Ulthuan will happen often.

How? By sea. Did you not notice that Ulthuan is an island???

Why? The most important reasons are:

  • Eltharion's campaign is boring and I wanted to feel like I was in actual danger.
  • You didn't use Invocation of Ladrielle, you absolute fool.

When? Advanced Deep Learning Machine AI reads your emails and analyzes your browser history (yes, including those sites you visited using private/incognito windows) to determine when would be the least convenient time to launch an invasion for you personally. This is GDPR compliant because the data never leaves your computer. You will not be warned prior to an invasion.

What else does this mod do? I'm glad you asked!!! Read on:

If You Play as Tor Yvresse

  • Reduces Warden's Supplies received when executing from 3 to 2 and when indoctrinating from 3 to 1 only when using auto-resolve.
  • Changes Indoctrination to actually steal 10% (not 5%) from parolee's faction's treasury and also correctly show parolees when they're at sea.
  • Fixes auto-resolve so it is possible to capture a prisoner via auto-resolve assuming you attacked and you won.
  • Reduces auto-resolve capture chance from 50% to 15%.
  • Prisoners from destroyed factions will be exiled.
  • Modifies Invocation of Ladrielle to redirect Greenskin invasion armies bound for Yvresse.
  • Fixes Mist of Yvresse so that it should work. Although this fix was copied from Community Bugfix Mod, there is a minor problem: Warriors of Chaos are immune to the mist. (A fix is coming soon, honest.)
  • Boosts ambush success chance for embedded Mistwalker Shadow heroes. (It's not just for Mistwalker generals anymore!)
  • Delays Mistwalker promotions until level 20.
  • Trips Eltharion's starting general, Mellindirei, down several flights of stairs.
  • Modifies starting dilemma so that abandoning Yvresse gets you nothing! The idea of surrendering Tor Yvresse to the Greenskins is insulting!! You should be ashamed of yourself!!! If for some strange reason you do abandon Ulthuan to the Greenskins, then any remaining armies will be teleported to the Badlands to join your mad quest.

If You Play as Tor Yvresse or Broken Axe Tribe

  • Buffs Broken Axe tribe whenever any Greenskin faction owns any of the 3 Greenskin camps.

If You Play as Knights of Caledor
  • Fixes one possible type of case where generic dragon encounters don't happen. There are other cases which are not possible to fix and it isn't possible to predict which case you'll hit.
  • Fixes some random crashes after generic dragon encounters. Other crashes are not fixable via mod, unfortunately. CA claims they fixed this in vanilla!
  • Fixes rewards for generic dragon encounters to match the type of dragon you encountered. CA fixed this in vanilla!
  • Fixes Armour of the Midsummer Sun to actually work for High Elfs.

If You Play as Avelorn
  • Your vassals' regions will gain the benefits of Power of Nature if Alarielle stops by.
  • Regions in Ulthuan held by your vassals will count as defended even if those vassals aren't High Elfs. This is especially funny if you vassalize a Druchii faction.

If You Play as High Elfs

  • Modifies Rite of Vaul to (ideally) only offer ancillaries you do not already own.
  • Correctly labels characters with 0 influence background skills to reflect how crappy their starting skill is.
  • Allows both Alastar and Eltharion to add the Advisor to the King to their retinue. This is fixed in vanilla!
  • Enables disbanding any extra Hand of the Shadow Crown heroes you may wind up with if you confederate Aleaf Anar.
  • If Teclis gets murked before you can confederate him and you're not using Recruit Defeated Legendary Lords, transfers Fuming Serpent to one of your enemies to make it possible to revive him.
  • Allows Gate Guard to be recruited from the Ulthuan Gates starting at Tier 2.

Irregardless of Which Faction You Play

  • Goads Skaven AI into building doomspheres (Clan Skryre), plague cauldrons (Clan Pestilens), or vermintides (any other Skaven faction). Note: this was not the case for the AI in WH2. If this is the case for the AI in WH3, I'll remove it.
  • Bump's Aleaf Anar's armies' ambush success chance, just like in WH2.
  • AI Eltharion is sufficiently grim that Seductive Influence doesn't work as well on him.
  • Makes Belegar, Queek, and Skarsnik hate you if you capture Karak Eight Peaks.

Compatibility

This is partially save-game compatible: although this works best with a new campaign, you can activate the mod anytime, but do not de-activate it unless you're going to start a new campaign!

This is intended for single player campaigns where you play as Eltharion or Grom. If you're weird enough to try this mod in a multiplayer campaign where someone is playing as Eltharion (irregardless of whether someone is playing as Grom), please let me know how it goes!

This should be compatible with ChaosRobie's The Old World Campaign.

Works great with my Gary the Bastiladon and Centers for Skaven Control mods.

Potentially incompatible with any mod that modifies wh2_dlc10_alarielle.lua. I don't use any such mods, but if you use one that does then please let me know.

Known Issues

  • Sometimes a Greenskin invasion targeting Yvresse gets stuck either when it launches or after it takes out its target. If this happens, it may take 3-5 turns for it to get unstuck. Raiding does not count as being stuck.

Acknowledgements

  • thesniperdevil's Yvresse Invasions is obviously the biggest inspiration for this mod, but I felt that being warned when an invasion was imminent ruined the sense of danger because (unlike when in Lustria) you can just run to the invasion point.
  • A ton of bugfixes for Yvresse's campaign either came from the WH2 Community Bugfix mod.
  • u/Knows_all_secrets was either the first or the most notable to call Ulthuan "Idiot Island". That name is now etched in my head.
  • Oliokos reported unintentional incompatibility with CPecific's Trait Manager.
  • u/UltraRanger72 thought Eltharion should have some protection from SI.

@pyromaniac7777 - OK, that's interesting. I'd definitely need more than a weekend to figure out what changes they've made and whether I accidentally clobber them or not.

You're welcome to copy my code either way. You may need to also copy some of the db tables, anything named ewthawionVSgwom, since those are all related.

Please don't copy the custom art (storm_of_derp_intro.png) that is only for this mod.

Thanks for the reply. The eltharion_lair lua is the one I was concerned about, but it sounds like I can just remove that script.
My mod is an Eltharion overhaul that includes the custom Mistwalker abilities (which are in the eltharion_lair lua) from More Fun for Grim. I haven’t posed it yet since I still need permission to borrow those. Would love to include the invasion from this mod

@pyromaniac7777 - which lua specifically are you overwriting? wh3_main_eltharion_yvresse dot lua or wh2_dlc15_eltharion_lair dot lua? I only overwrite the former to move the homeland army to the badlands if you choose to abandon Ulthuan.

I don't have any intention of making a custom version of this, but the entirety of the invasion code + Eltharion campaign tweaking happens in omlette_sod_ewthawion_vs_gwom dot lua, which relies on omlette_install_invasion_manager dot lua. If you get rid of the other script files, that will remove all of the other stuff.

What specifically does your mod do? If it's on the workshop, I can take a look and doublecheck if it's compatible, but just a heads up that I probably can't get to that until next weekend.

Is it possible to get a version of this with just the invasions, or how can I make that for myself? I have my own version of Eltharion’s lua and don’t wanna replace it

Not sure why, but your mod makes Cpecific's Trait Manager to not work. Not really a problem for me, but since I saw the issue, I wanted to let you know.

Best mod ever! Going for my third Eltharion campaign after all these updates hoping to see the finish line this time round.
