Terraforming

Description
Not currently maintained!

Terraforming enables the ability to change your world. Cleanse your world or pollute it into a hellscape. The gas in your atmosphere is finite, anything you take from it will be gone and anything you dump into it will stay. The temperature will react accordingly, and with dedication and careful planning you can turn Europa hot, or Venus cold.

The temperature of your world is controlled by a temperature model that takes multiple factors into account, but the factors you'll be able to change is the gas composition.
  • Pollutant is a strong greenhouse gas.
  • Co2 & Volatiles is mild greenhouse gases.
  • Nitrogen and Nitrous oxide has a cooling effect.

  • Volatiles will increase your day/nigh differential temperature.
  • A thick atmosphere will reduce your day/nigh differential temperature.

Temperature model work off SolarIrradiance. This means temperature fluctuates with "seasons". Very noticeable on Vulcan.

All planets can be made into a liveable environment, at least part of the day, but some planets are easier than others.

Your planet has a maximum pressure it can sustain (defined by the gravity factor). Only if you reach this limit will gas start to completely disappear.

Install:
Step 1: Install BepInEx [docs.bepinex.dev]
Step 2: Install the StationeersLaunchPad plugin[github.com]
Step 3: Click Subscribe!

Alternatively the dll file can be found here if you just want to drop the mod right into your bepInEx-plugins folder: https://github.com/Elmotrix/TerraformingMod/releases

Please note: the world atmosphere "total volume" is VERY large, but it's nowhere near realistic (in so many ways). This is intended as an endgame project and to give more purpose to building mega bases. I have tried to put it at a size that would take a mega base designed to process gas a MINIMUM of 100 hours of effective chugging to complete a terraforming project. But this is hard for 1 busy man to test and confirm, so if you find it taking way too long or way too fast, let me know please.

Thanks to Nevcairiel for keeping the mod updated! And to RogerWaters & Tanngrisnir/sdegrace for their contributions.

welp, i just finished installing everything. haha, guess i will uninstall. hope we get wither this mod or terraforming soon.. and then Nuke thermo dynamics so we can make reactors :)

They keep changing atmosphere behavior, just last night came in a big change again. Honestly they are preparing for their own terraforming, either it'll quiet down at some point and we can fix the mod (and have it last more then a week), or they'll have so many changes in that the mod becomes either a lot easier or even unnecessary .. exciting times ahead. :)

When will this mod be working again

Indeed, there is a lot of work going on for the terrain and atmosphere updates, and updating Terraforming now would likely just result in it breaking again soon after. So use the named branch if you want to continue playing with Terraforming for the time being

As Powerkek states, use the preterrain version of the game to keep the mod working for the time being. @angel_seed
I reckon there won’t be an update until the terrain and world generation changes are locked in

I have a temporary workaround. Rolled back to the "preterrain" version, and I start a new game every time then close it before loading my existing save. This avoids the null reference exception.

Mod now is not working

So is it possible to terraform Vulcan? Is it possible to play on it at all (and not to be burned)?
BentoFox 12 Aug, 2024 @ 1:40pm
@Elmo
that looks like it worked. Closing the session and saving returns the correct terraforming world state. It also explains a lot why sometimes it seemed to work fine and sometimes it didn't - turns out it was auto-saving.
