Religio Romana - Victorum Universalis

Description

Vanilla version here

Have you ever wanted to revive the Old Hellenic Pagan religion in EU4?

You have? That's oddly specific and unrealistic, but so have I. To start, Jan uploaded their Hellenic Polytheism mod back in 2015, and with their permission I updated it.

Good job you updated a mod, so what?

Harsh, but I didn't simply update the mod. I also added more events and more decisions you can take. I personally was never a big fan of EU4's "click button and that's it" format, and I have always preferred CK2/3's approach of having fun events occur so it is not so anticlimactic. This mod allows you to play as a country in the Latin, Old Latin, or Byzantine culture group and bring back the old Pagan Gods through a decision (You can't be the Pope or Defender of the Faith, and you must own either Rome or Athens). Afterwards, there are other decisions you can take like becoming the Pontifxex Maximus, restoring the Imperial Cult, and more! Currently it is setup so that the AI cannot do anything relating to the mod. I have to note that Jan made the mod to equally favor Greek and Roman Hellenism, and allowed for the ability to convert to another Pagan religion known as Sol Invictus. I am still pretty new to modding (this is the most amount of work I've put into a mod), so to make it easier on myself, I cut the Sol Invictus portion and have it far more focused on the Roman side of Hellenism. Overall, you can easily play as a Greek/Byzantine nation and get a lot of fun out of it, but it is definitely focused on Roman Paganism.

That's it? Surely you can do more

Again, harsh, but you are correct. I have been working on a chain of events inspired from the Crusader Kings "Delving into the Classics" events. Where rather than your nation proclaiming "We pagan now" it is a process starting with embracing the renaissance, and your rulers and nation must grapple with losing faith in Christianity. Additionally, I plan to add events from being the Pontifex Maximus, events involving the Vestal Virgins of Rome, The Auspex, and Roman holidays like Saturnalia. I want this mod to feel immersive similar to the incredible mod Third Odyssey . In doing so, I will have to likely have to remove the Greek naming system of the Gods to make sense with the narrative I am writing. All the mechanics will be the same, the only change would be as a Greek you would see the name "Jupiter" instead of Zeus.

Alright I'm interested, but what do I need to do to play this?

The mod is designed to work in tandem with the amazing Victorium Universalis mod as well as the Great Exhibition addition .

Mr. Mod-Making man, I have some feedback for you

Good! I love feedback. I haven't put an immense of thought behind balancing, and I have done some bug testing. Of course, I'm sure there is room for improvement on both fronts. When I made the various bonuses you get from following the entire line of decisions, I build them based on what would make sense for the religion and the hypothetical scenarios in my head, and only checked for balancing a couple times. If you have a suggestion to better balance the mod, suggestions on how to make the mod better, or notice a massive bug or spelling error, please let me know and I will do my best to update the mod.

If you enjoy the mod and want to see further development, please leave a rating to let me know!

This might be outdated, but as far as I know steam, without much reasoning, took the mod down and therefore they moved to git. All updates to the main mod are available on git and for the near future this is supposed to continue to be that way.
I am not part of the developer team though and might have missed some informations.

@GemTopaz No idea, it is possible the mod may be undergoing a massive update and the creator wanted to avoid people bugging them. That is pure speculation though.

Do you know why it was taken down?

AS of right now, the Victorium Universalis mod is taken off of the workshop. Consequently, this mod will remain broken until the VU mod is updated and uploaded. Currently, I am working on updating the vanilla version of this mod for anyone interested:

I can't seem to launch the mod I have subscribed to the mod through steam, enabled it in the playset i want to play the mod with. But the game launched and its the vanilla map. I've tried setting the game version to 1.35.3, it still didn't work. Is there a prerequisite mod i need to install and launch with it?

I have returned, and I have updated this mod to 1.35.3. Keep an eye out for bugs, and post them here so I can fix them.
