Calorie Fix

Description
42 compatible! This mod fixes the abnormally high calorie burn rate from simply walking that was introduced in version 41.78, that causes walking to consume more calories than running. Currently in 41.78 (and it appears on 42) walking will consume 110% of the calories as running the same distance. This mod changes that so walking consumes 40% the calories as running the same distance. Thumbs up if you like it.

NOTE: You have to load this mod from the load game screen, not the main menu UI, if you want it to work on an existing save game.

Eternal thanks to Chuckleberry Finn for developing the original code for this mod and allowing me to use it.

THIS MOD IS INCOMPATIBLE with Chuckleberry's "Rebalanced Calorie Burning" mod. My mod here is basically the scaled down version of his that just does one simple thing, adjusts the calorie burn on walking, while his allows you to tweak and adjust a ton of other features with calories. But they WILL NOT work together.

If any feedback or bugs please let me know.

BACKGROUND

With the 41.78 update to PZ the game adjusted the walking calorie burn rate so that it's more than just standing still doing nothing which is fine, but the problem is they over corrected and increased it so much that walking now takes MORE calories than running the same distance. So you actually save calories and get fatter by running versus walking everywhere which is counter intuitive and makes no sense.

If you wondered why on 41.78 your character was going into starvation even though you are playing the same way you always have eating a balanced diet this is why. This abnormally high change to walking calories burn rate also meant that foraging for food had become obsolete since you now use more calories than you gain from foraging, and doing things like resting at your safehouse and moving around organizing things will burn as much calories as running a marathon outside all day. This mod fixes that.

FAQ

Q. What does this mod actually do?
A. It changes the per second walking calorie burn rate scaling from .6 to .22 now, which when factoring in running speed vs walking speed over a fixed distance means that walking now takes approximately 40% of the calories as running the same distance. This ratio will shrink as your sprinting skill increases and will be affected by any run modifying clothes.

Q. How do I know if this mod is actually working?
A. I've tested it quite thoroughly so it appears to be doing its job (pending any big game updates). If you want to verify though download Minimal Display Bars mod then pick a fixed distance to move back and forth from. Walking that fixed distance should only use 40% of the calories as running the same distance if the mod is working correctly. Keep in mind this burn rate will be affected if you are wearing clothes that modify run rate and/or have a high sprint skill.

Q. I just enabled the mod on my existing save game but it’s not working?
A. You have to enable it in the load game screen section to apply it to an existing save game, not the main menu.

Q. Will this mod work with other mods?
A. It should since not many other mods affect calorie burn rate.

Q. Will this mod work on multiplayer servers?
A. I don’t know. I think so? I’m still learning modding so if you discover that it does or doesn’t let me know.

Q. I just peeked under the hood of this mod and it seems unnecessarily complicated for changing a single calorie scaling number.
A. That is because you can’t actually change a single calorie scaling number. The genius behind the code on this mod, Chuckleberry Finn, instead found a workaround and recreated the entire vanilla calculations for calorie burn rate while moving. So when this mod is enabled what happens is that there are actually two calorie burn calculations occurring simultaneously, the vanilla one and this modified one. This mod then adjusts the final calorie burn rate by the difference. Hence why it appears so complicated.

@DreadLordNaf Thank you for responding. I started a new game in debug mode, and found my calories were draining normally. I messed around with my mods but wasn't able to replicate the issue a second time, so it seems to be working perfectly fine now.

@snakebit sam - if you are using any other mod that affects calories, then this mod will likely conflict causing that. I just recently retested it on 42 and it still works, at least when its alone.

I played with this mod and it seemed to cause my character to stop losing calories *altogether*. I ate a tub of ice cream to get the double up arrow, did an hour of burpies and sprinted from Rosewood to Muldraugh and not once did the arrows disappear.

@RudyTheNinja - It's not. I had an argument with one of the mods/devs on steam forums about this and it is for sure intended, even though dumb.

I'm not subbed to the thread but still got a notification :lunar2019deadpanpig:
Since I was here I thought to read up on the mod's description under new consideration that the change was apparently intentional and I should maybe not use this mod then

"...you actually save calories and get fatter by running versus walking everywhere which is counter intuitive and makes no sense"

"... doing things like resting at your safehouse and moving around organizing things will burn as much calories as running a marathon outside all day"

It has to b a bug/mistake lol wtf

@DreadLordNaf Thank you

@CaaRI - Yes when you load a game, there is a option,, maybe under "more", i forget where exactly that you can enable it on a saved game.

Sorry for such a question, but I didn’t quite understand, to include a mod in an existing save, you need to activate it in the Saves tab, select the desired save and add this mod there?
RudyTheNinja 6 Apr @ 2:26pm
Oh, I've got months inbetween times I play PZ n I just came back to it
I forgot or didnt know it was intentional; there was just so much talk and mods about it I thought it was definitely a mistake ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@RudyTheNinja - I am not aware its a bug. Its a questionable but purposeful design decision they implemented in 41.78 that they seem to be sticking with.
