Map Intel:
By The Numb3r5 / By The D4rk Numb3r5 together as now the night environment can be manipulated correctly. The Unity update also allows me to import the models the previous version was destroying on import so the bases are fleshed out now. Tons of new models, sounds and performance improvements.

This map like most my others is about angles, setting and ambiance. Blowing snow and brewing blizzard keep visibility low and the tension high. Sparse cover means move with intelligence. Cliff side paths can be instant death if you lose your footing...or if the enemy does. You WILL need to find angles or sneaky ways to flank to progress. Map is designed to be played one way and capture flags are hidden by design.

If you do not know what a numbers station is see the following.

Mission Eagle:
Last week a U-2 flyover diverted a few miles south of their regular Siberian flight plan and found what we believe to be the УВБ-73 numbers station. We’ve inserted as high up on the mountain as possible and set up a temporary camp. Our orders are to hold until the weather turns bad enough to move in cover, then proceed across the mountain shelf and down until we find the station. We believe the structure of the rock is being used to help catch, focus and shield the stations broadcasts and whereabouts. Because we’re acting on generalized radio triangulation we will need to keep our eyes open for terrain features or combatant hardware. Find the station, demo the station. I shouldn’t have to tell you to stay frosty and this is to be done by the numbers but by Dad Jokes I am compelled.

Mission Raven:
Just another crappy day on this crappy assignment. We’re just baby sitters up here. Patrol the ridge, keep the transmission broadcasting. Listen for orders to change the outgoing. Refill the propane and diesel when the helo brings supplies. Normally I’d love being a lone RTO up here but I’m stuck with a bunch of ####ups. If some moron gets caught with the Generals daughter...they send him here. Idiot gets drunk, passes out at some bar and gets declared AWOL...they send him here. So an otherwise wonderful retreat is marred by having to run this operation with all the rejects who are being punished for being too stupid to keep it reg.

Someone had made snowmobiles to replace the quads but they pulled the workshop item...shame.

I fear there may be some players using a TI Calculator or Ye Olde Potato to play and I will hear “MY FPS IS LE CRAP! CAN YOU NERF X?” -No. I spent a ridiculous amount of time zoning the snow, tweaking positions and settings to avoid using high CPU functions for “ez quick” effects. This is about as optimized as things can get.

And remember...Ravenfield is just DOTA with guns...until the Artificial gets some Intelligence…

@Neco-Arc it's kinda everything. Lots of modders are ignorant, some just aholes, Unity is itself brutally broken and the Coup de grâce is that Streel Raven has things so that you can explicitly break things for the other platforms. Back in Unity 2017 you could cheat this though. Back then if you DID NOT select a platform to export to but you had support installed for MacOS/Lin/Win export it would default to a common tool set if you didn't select an export platform. This way unless the modder did something stupid like use only DX shaders you'd get one export and all platforms. That's gone now and combined with people just being lazy and grabbing trendy free DX only shaders and assets it's a lazy mans shovelware fest...you'd like it was the Wii 20 years ago heh.

Now that I think about it, my assumption was insulting and was probably fueled by my own personal experiences with anything made in Unity, which have been almost purely negative.

I had no idea that the state of cross-platform exporting was _that_ bad.
I always assumed that the reason there's comparatively little content for two of the three platforms Ravenfield supports compared to other titles was because mod developers just didn't have basic knowledge about how Unity or the RF modding tools work.
I didn't know that the modding tools and Unity itself were this broken to begin with.

PT. 1 Sadly the modding community amplifies the problem too. I'd spit ball 80-90% is broken Win only garbo due to ignorance. Since I was able to jerry Rig Unity to work again I've not had Windows export installed because one of the ways I have to trick Unity into exporting in general is with a Windows build that it can't/won't do. So for example if I generate a new NavGraph Unity WILL NOT add the new graph to the hierarchy or package for export unless you do two exports. So I will export for Windows (which it won't do because there is no Windows support installed) and finish fast since there is nothing to do. THEN Unity will add the new graph and I can change the export target back to Linux and export correctly.

PT. 2 However that can also fail and you have to do something stupid like save, disable something, save, reenable the thing you disabled...export. There are so many idiotic tricks I've had to come to learn to deal with how broken Unity is it's insane. Never mind the fact it can't comprehend a Posix file system and I have scripts that renmame and move files because it will say built a map for navgraph creation but name it all lower case...then complain there is no map to process because when it launches the RF client to build the navgraph it expects the correct name with capitalization...fun...

ye I only recently learned about how to export to Mac and other platforms, Steel really doesn't promote cross compatibility at all :steamsad:

@SnodgerChild I'm not on MacOS ;) but I'm glad you are releasing for all platforms. I'm sorta torn on the situation as I don't like the problem thus I shouldn't contribute to it. Plus it's not the players fault SR has the game for 3 platforms but has broken the ability to export cross platform. However Unity is so broken and it takes so much "fight" to export things combined with the ignorance I've run up against by Windows only modders I just kinda said screw the extra effort.

If I can continue to import my old work (lots of maps were started/halfway when Unity was broken by choice by the Unity devs) and fix/finish things I may start exporting for Windows again when I'm fairly sure the kinks are worked out...which is also IF Unity continues to work.

:(
I'll use the other versions then, just to let you know I release mac versions for some of my more recent stuff so I'm glad to help out on the mac side
