Plot Armor

Description
"Plot Armor: Used to refer to the phenomenon in fiction whereby the main character is allowed to survive dangerous situations because they are needed for the plot to continue."

-Oxford English Dictionary

TL;DR
A mod for filthy casuals that can give you a second chance when you take an unlucky 720 no scope headshot from an AI, or depending on the settings, turn you into the Terminator. The choice is yours.

ATTENTION
If the mod appears to not be working, you are likely playing a mission/using a mod that enables incapacitation/reviving of some kind, see the compatibility section below.

Description
When you've taken enough damage to kill an ordinary man, your PLOT ARMOR kicks in and gives you a second chance. Instead of dying, you enter a critical state and the "critical bar" appears. While critical, you are locked in a severely wounded state. Unable to run, shaky aim, bleeding everywhere, yet still alive. Any further damage after the grace period (by default 1 second) reduces the red portion of the critical bar. If you continue to take too much damage, not even your plot armor can save you and you will die having shamefully squandered your second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh chances.

There are three ways to leave the critical state:
  • Let the critical timer run out (indicated by the small white portion of the critical bar). However taking any damage will reset the timer so find a safe place to hide.
  • Heal. Any form of healing will instantly end the critical state.
  • Die. Continue to absorb bullets with your body until the red part of the bar is gone and the critical state will end along with your life.

The amount of damage you can take in the critical state as well as the duration of the state/grace period can be customized in the addon settings. There are also some compatibility options that will be explained below.

Compatibility
There are several options to help make this mod work with various missions:
  • Automatic Activation Delay: Will automatically apply the plot armor after this many seconds have passed, as long as the Manual Activation option is not being used.
  • Manual Activation: Gives the player an action to manually activate the Plot Armor. Can be used if a mission needs to initialize first. Use this option and wait until the mission is fully loaded, then hit the "Activate Plot Armor" action in the action menu.
  • Overwrite Damage EventHandlers: This completely removes any Damage EventHandlers on the player that are used to enable various systems, like reviving and such. It has a high chance of breaking other mods and/or missions so only use it as a last resort. Should almost always should be used with the Manual Activation option, but it's safer not to use this option unless you know you have to.
  • Transfer Armor on Team Switch: Enabling this will make it so switching to another unit will apply the plot armor to that unit. Should have no effect if team switching isn't possible in your current mission.
  • Emergency Stop: Will enable an action to remove the plot armor from the player at any time.
  • Emergency Start: The opposite of the above.

Confirmed Compatible:
  • Antistasi - The Mod/Ultimate: Use both Manual Activation and Overwrite Damage EventHandlers. Use the Activate Plot Armor action when the game has fully loaded. This will disable Antistasi's revive system (only for the player) but the critical state will function properly.

As far as compatibility with other mods, I'm not sure. Anything that affects reviving and/or medical is almost definitely not compatible. The compatibility options may make it work but there will likely be things that don't work right.

Well, if you use the 'overwrite damage eventhandlers' option with the 'self revive' option, it kind of is its own revive system, you just revive yourself after a time instead of needing someone else to do it.

Would be cool if you added your own customizable revive system to this mod that also can override existing systems like the APS mod did

@Murmur hahahaha I laughed so hard at the "you can get excited again". Thank you for the notice, you're awesome man! I wish you all the best. xD

@Jaden Vance, you can get excited again, the settings lock should be fixed now.

Haha, well It was good while it lasted then! Have a wonderful, nice day, mate. xD

@Jaden Vance, don't get too excited lol, I just reverted the change. Someone messaged me to say they can't get any of the settings to work now on a dedicated server, and since it was working perfectly fine before I've reverted it because I don't have the time to figure out the issue.

Hell yeah, finally we can lock settings for missions! Yay! Time to start using this amazing mod again! xD
