The Parasyte-Thing

Description
Adds a horrific parasyte to the game. Inspired by The Thing and Parasyte

It combines the dangers of werebeasts, necromancers and vampires. They are extremely dangerous and contagious.

Parasyte things can appear on the surface randomly like titans, but they are mostly encountered from vermin bites found in the frozen biomes or the third cavern layer. It can also appear as a curse or secret but that is not fully tested.

Test these abominations in the arena, or use some farming station recipes to bring your fort to a disastrous end!

yak milk + 2 prepared yak eyes -> pale one poison (secret)
reindeer milk + blood thorn -> red rage poison !DANGER!
dwarven cheese + blood thorn -> evil immunisation (immunity to OPPOSED TO LIFE)

I absolutely love the kind of desolation and despair this mod brings to any generated world - especially for those created under higher corruption levels during worldgen. It's just like the game becomes even more real and deadly. For weeks I've been streaming my gameplay on such a world, while building a whole storytelling narrative that revolves around death, blight, and cosmic horror (it's edwin_fox on both twitch/youtube).

That said, I have some questions for better understanding how the mod works!

- do 3rd-cave-layer vermin carry the syndrome?
- is it air-borne (from mist on corrupted biomes)?
- instead of black bronze, can I change it to another rare metal like adamantine? If so, where do I change it? Maybe at creature_parasyte_thing.txt? How do I do that so it affects worlds already generated?

appears to be an error you can fix very quickly

in the file interaction_parasyte_thing.txt the line

"CE_PHYS_ATT_CHANGE:TOUGHNESS:200:0:ENDURANCE:200:0:RECUPERATION:150:0:START:0]"

is missing the first opening bracket -- "[" ahead of "CE_"

i believe this is the cause of some crashes potentially.

You also can't fuse properly either. Atleast, I don't think you can.

Been trying out the "red Rage" potion in adventure mod beta. It's pretty fun, if pretty buggy. As a dwarf, when you transfrom, it gets ride of your extravision, and you can only ressurect corpses, not body parts, and you cannot summon a tentacle or a spider properly.

I haven't returned to dwarf fortress in some time. There is a lot I would love to retest for this because I found that experiments were not appearing on saves using this. I want to see what i can do with adventure mode in the future but it may not work all that well.

for some bizarre reason they are appearing in my game as a civ lol, it's pretty strange. :leviathancross:

Playable in adventure mode ? Would be amazing to play it, infect people and make yourself evolve by onsuming people !

awesome mod but could definitely use some counterplay IMO. I like that they're nigh-impossible to overcome through conventional combat, it makes them very scary, and useful to weaponize against invaders. But vermin seem to be able to go through walls, so it's pretty much impossible to prevent infections, even with perfect 'hygiene' and security. maybe the vermin could be reworked into 'normal' animals. Either way it's probably my favorite DF mod right now, just gotta play with it in arena mode since it's so lethal.
