U.N.C.F. Yuunagi BBS-885 - Wave III Kongo Class Space Battleship

Description
"Gamilas is our Ally now, we didn't come here to spy on a Friendly Fleet" - Lieutenant Susumu Kodai, Second Escort Squadron

Commissioned in 2201, the Yuunagi is a modern Wave III style of the venerable Kongo class of Space Battleship belonging to the United Nations Cosmo Force. She is commanded by Lieutenant Susumu Kodai of the Second Escort Squadron.

The Kongo class Space Battleship was the last of the original three types of warships designed to fight the powerful Martian Space Fleet. Initially launched in 2171, the first wave of the Kongo Class were shown to be fairly effective against Martian Warships, but with rapid developments and the start of the Second Inner Planetary War, it had quickly grown apparent that the Kongo needed an update. Those updates would be tested on the Kongo herself in 2173, and the new design would officially be made the Wave II style in 2175, though the Kongo herself would be known as a Wave I-A style along with her sister ship Kirishima.

With the start of the Second Inner Planetary War in 2180, the majority of Kongo class Space Battleships would be relegated to fleet and local command vessels, often housing admirals of various types. The newer Wave II's would show extraordinary prowess in combating the Martian forces up until the end of the war in 2183. After the war, just over half of the large space battleships would be mothballed along with many Murasame and Isokaze class vessels as they were just too large to properly supply in peacetime. The ships would serve in an anti-piracy role up until first contact with the Gamilas Star Empire in April, 2191.

With a disastrous first contact, the UNCF found itself at war once again. All moth-balled ships were reactivated and sent out to fight, where they would quickly be destroyed by the far more advanced technology of the Gamillas warships. A massive fleet of UNCF warships would manage to hold the line against the Gamillans at the Second Battle of Mars, though at tremendous loss. By the end of the battle, there would only be a single Kongo class Space Battleship left in the entirety of the UNCF fleet, the UNCF Kongo. The Kongo would go on to serve through the remainder of the Gamillas-Earth War, from Operation M to the return of the Space Battleship Yamato.

With the advancements made from the technology gifted by the Iscandarians and salvaged from the Gamillans, a new variation of the Kongo class would be put into service, the Wave III. The Wave III style of Kongo class would go on to serve all through the Earth-Gatlantis war, though their roles as Space Battleships would come into question with the introduction of the Dreadnought and Andromeda classes of Space Battleships. By the end of the war against Gatlantis, this ship was unofficially known as either a Light Space Battleship or a Heavy Space Cruiser depending on whom it was you spoke with.

Though antiquated by the end of 2202, there is no denying the significance of the Kongo class in UNCF Naval history. The Kongo Class would go down in history as the ship that held the line against overwhelming odds.

Creator's Note:

I love this ship. Flat out. Maybe not as much as the Murasame class, but I love it all the same. Though I never understood why they put the bridge on the top of one of the main guns in the show (though I obviously couldn't do that here). That was the only real criticism I had for this ship when I first saw it on TV many years ago. I want to personally say thank you to Federation_Thunderbolt for sending me this ship's link on Steam for me to work on. I hope I did his work justice.

Also, may I ask if everyone could rate this ship as I'd like to gauge how I'm doing when it comes to ship construction. Thank You!
