[2025.1] Sounds Of War

Description
[WIP]

Sounds of War is a Sound Mod that focuses mainly on explosions and weaponry sounds using modified audio assets from Arma's spectacular JSRS mod by the amazing LordJarhead.
It also aims to modify some other key sounds to increase immersion and add a more dramatic feel to the game.

* If the mod appear outdated, it's not *

* New game NOT required & safe to remove. *

The new 88 might sound oversaturated on your side, please see the known issues section down below for a fix.


/!\ COMPATIBILITY /!\

/!\ - Will conflict with HWA Realistic Sounds and Dark SFX
and any other sound mod that changes the same sounds.

- Radio and Music mods are SAFE to use.

/!\ - This mod does not touch any data sheets to ensure maximum compatibility with other mods.

FUTURE PLAN

Future plans are to add more sound variants for a given sound trigger, add new sound triggers, change the distance at wich a particular sound can be heard, add more distance layers and dynamic speed of sound delay.

1.16b:
- Added a new sound variant for Torpedo Explosion with tweaked vanilla debris effect.

- Added back a tweaked version of the Course Change Bell.

- Tweaked Periscope Rotation sound to be cleaner.
- Added new Hull Creaks from SH3.

1.16g:
- Added new, more powerfull 88 variant ( please tell me how it render on your side, might need tweaking still )

1.16h:
- Fixed an issue with the Flak 30 sound being swallowed up during long salvos.
- Added new 20mm Shell Casing sound for the flak 30.



/!\ - KNOWN ISSUES /!\

There's an issue with the 88 being mishandled and oversaturated by the game, may not happen to everyone but this is the case for me. See below:


- If the current 88 sound is too loud or oversaturated please do this:

  • 1: In the game's audio settings, change from stereo (or whatever you are using) to mono and then stereo again.

  • 2: This change has now broken the game audio with missing sounds like wave ambiance and other sounds. To fix that, just reload the save and you are good to go.

  • 3: You must do it each time you launch the game.


The devs have yet to acknoledge and fix many sound issues with the game and i can't just spend hours adjusting and rebalancing some of the sounds while the devs could be working on it.

I would like to add the fact that the game uses its own settings and handles sounds in its own way.
The 88, for example, is known to be handled very loudly by the game and that the sound can render very saturated for some people, the torpedo explosion as well, when your camera is too close to it.

Overall, the game have issues with sound proximity rendering and I'll be glad to discuss it further with the devs to give constructive advices and ways to improve the sound experience <3

Some sounds are made quite loud and with boosted bass, if your personnal audio settings are already boosting the audio ranges ( the bass in particular ) it can sound too bassy and unbalanced, i am sure we can find common ground for those who have audio issues, i just need to know wich sounds might need tweaking.

    @FIVE-one That's intentional I'm pretty sure. In Das Boot (i'm sure in real life too) the crew had a chalkboard they would use to tally how many depth charges are dropped on them so they could know when the destroyer above them ran out of them

    Hi ! I've had some weird noise played while being depth charged. Looks like it plays a sound of someone spraying something or writting on a black board with chalk.

    Hyrdrophone audio not right after most recent update. Not sure what happened. Also cannot leave hydrophone station, unsure what the cause is.

    Sound der FLAK ist immer noch nicht gut. Höre dir mal bitte ein 20mm Geschütz an. Wenn so ein Ding loslegt wird dir Angst und Bange. Bei der Bundeswehr gibt es ein 20mm Feldgeschütz und der Marder hat ebenfalls ein 20mm-Geschütz. Das ist der Sound der FLAK.
