"This would seem well if it was a scorpion causing these pockets but not something that ordinary javelins can achieve." Also you must consider their arms and armor adding weight... being thrown back by a javelin while you're in full-charge forward? Most likely your momentum would carry you forward where you'd be stepped over, or more likely, trampled. none of this magic spinning deaths disrupting the whole of the unit. This is someting I've been looking for; the force behind some of these javelin units against stationary, shield-bearing units is... smh. Not to mention of course what you've already adressed. So thanks for this!
