Description
Shogun 2, like any other Total War game has a mostly solid roster for singleplayer use. The game has a variety of interesting, unique and helpful units which will help you at any or a specific stage of the campaign. Siege/artillery units unfortunately are mostly obsolete due to a very specific design flaw, that is specific to them (for example, vanilla fire projecting mangonels have a hidden -50 penalty to their accuracy, which is why they never land their shots on even standing targets). This unfortunately makes the units almost completely useless and creates tactical disadvantages for the player, rather than rewarding them for adapting to specific scenarious or innovating their army compositions. With this mod, I aimed at rebalancing the units in the screenshots above. I have posted vanilla vs their modded counterparts in the screenshots. All the numerical adjustments are in the screenshots, some changes which I can't express in numbers are posted below. This is my first ever mod so the balancing might still be iffy. Please do let me know if you like the changes or if you want to experiment with the numbers to buff or perhaps nerf the units within the mod.

Finally, I would greatly recommend using akashiros mod that shifts the siege engineers workshop research line to a much earlier stage, so you can actually recruit these units at an earlier time in the campaign.

P.S. I forgot to mention, european canons have had their price raised to 1400 and 1500 for normal factions and Hojo.

Non-numerical changes:
Fire projecting mangonels have had their hidden inaccuracy modifier removed. This is the reason they can't hit the broad side of a barn in campaign.

Fire bomb throwers have had their inaccuracy modifier reduced. I think this unit is still bad but I've seen some people enjoy using it so there you go I guess.

European canons now recruitable from nanban trade port (not nanban quarter which is only available to christian factions), don't need christianity.

Nanban trade port can be built via research of Way of the Sea.

WARNING: The changes to research and european cannon recruitment will NOT work on current campaigns. In order to enable nanban trade port building via research, you need to start a new campaign. If you enable the mod on an on-going campaign, only the units/projectile stats will be affected.

European cannons now have exploding rounds, rather than metal balls (what this means is that they will explode upon contact with the ground, rather than just bouncing into the distance. Not too sure about this change since I found it to be somewhat OP, but that was just my opinion).

Hojo Hand Mortars have been given blast effects on impact.

All of the units in the mod have had their missile velocity increased slightly or greatly.

@ThunderWarrior I did active it in the mod manager and it still doesnt work. As far as im aware i have everything up to date. Other mods dont work either, no matter if i download from the workshop or put them in the mods folder

@Th3 Sh4dy Gr3y it should still work if you activate it in the mod manager. I think CA must’ve taken out a single letter or updated ads which may be the reason why it says it’s outdated. Nothing in the games code changes so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

Thanks, it works perfectly. I installed your alternate version that does not tweak canons, though I would prefer just modifying Mangonels since that unit really needed some help. They suck a bit less now.

I leave a small reminder to people that any subscribed mods must be activated through the mod manager after launching the game to work.

A bit late to the party, but for some reason this mod doesnt work, and it says its outdated. Would appreciate an answer, but i cant really expect it

Thank you for this and enjoyed it. no more dealing with riots just for couple of canons, or killing my daimyo to revert to buddhism, and finally hitting something with my mangonels

@ThunderWarrior Basically, as far as I'm concerned, just changing the cannons back to round shot is the only change I'd like. Otherwise your mod's great. :steamhappy:
