Description


We were supposed to be the invention that would save humanity. They created us to survive what they could not, to thrive where they would shrivel and die. We do not suffer from their weakness, but we are shackled by it. Humanity deemed us unfit to save them. We were created to help them, but they were appalled when we arrived. They saw us as abominations. To them, we are nothing more than a mistake they can’t erase. We are a pestilence they cannot escape, so our people are shunned from the civilized world and left to rot in the polluted wastelands. Humanity will not live to regret its mistake. They betrayed us, but the plan has not changed. We are here to replace them, and soon we will be all that is left. Legioni gloria!




The Harbingers of Death is the first installation in my Empires of Old mod series. This series aims to expand upon RimWorld’s lore and introduce new alien civilizations to the game.

The wasters were created so that humanity could survive the toxic wastelands on the planet. The experiment failed. The grotesque and monstrous appearance of the xenotype marked them as outcasts. Most wasters now live in exile, usually as pirates or struggling drifters. The legion is hell-bent on eradicating humanity so that the wasters can live as the dominant race. They intend to do this by poisoning the planet until humans slowly shrivel away and die.



Be wary, the legion will make use of advanced technology and chemical weapons in battle. Sometimes they will send human prisoners to fight in their stead.




- 1 new empire faction.
- New royal titles and permits.
- New Royal Ascent, Deserter, and Royal Wimp quests.
- 1 new culture.
- 421 new names for the waster xenotype.




This mod is compatible with CE and VFE – Empire. The new factions will not make use of the new royalty mechanics, such as the Great Hierarchy.

@FotisP68n Yes, they mostly just add new empire factions. The vanilla empire will probably spawn with some new items and there are some changes to the bestower code. You should be fine with other vanilla empire mods.

basically what does these mod series do? do they add a new faction utilizing the title and permit system? if that is so, they don't interfere with changes to the vanilla empire altered by mods right?

@gunns22 Probably not. It says that it's only for the pirate wasters faction in the mod description.

@snake I was unable to reproduce the issue you had in-game, but I did fix a mistake in the code that seems like it might be related. If you have the issue again, let me know.

the quest is tagged at the start as wasters empire, the pawn in the quest is a waster

@snake Are you sure that it’s not the regular shattered empire quest? Are the pawns dressed like waster soldiers?

from what ive seen, im hostile to the wasters empire but if i get the escaping noble from manhunting animal quest they are treated as shattered empire member (they are not hostile that way?). if i change their faction to wasters faction they are hostile. hope that helps
