Accessibility Mods for the Weary Slugcat (Kind of out of date)
By teethfoolery gun coolatta
Is Rain World a struggle for you? Whether you need visibility features, help with complex controls, getting rid of visuals or audio that's dangerous (or just annoying), help with getting rid of a critter or object you're afraid of, hopefully you'll find something in this guide to help you out. (always updating!)

May 11th Update: Updated to include image descriptions for the screenshots of the settings! Now also includes pre-workshop instructions to make Spearmaster trypophobia-safe!

August 14th Update: Now updated to include whether something is verified working as of 1.9.15.3-- Also now contains a workshop mod for trypophobia-safe Spearmaster!

Introduction
Hello everyone! I've personally collected a lot of mods to make Rain World more accessible to me (as a bad gamer with bad reaction times), but I'd like to compile them for anyone who needs them or just wants an easier experience.
From quality of life or helping with visibility, to removing phobias, to even just assisting impatience, hopefully this guide will help you play Rain World the way you need to.

This guide will also go over some of the settings in each mod that may help with particular issues.

If I have made a mistake in this guide, if you have some information on a mod, or if you'd like to add a mod, please let me know!

NOTE: some of these are not verified for the new update and may brick your game. These entries will be marked. Help verifying these would be appreciated!
Remix's Accessibility
Remix, a built-in feature of Rain World, has some accessibility features on its own.

Go to the remix section of the title screen, and of course, you'll find it there.

HUD

(ID: A screenshot of the Rain World Remix HUD settings. They are listed as follows: Speedrun timer, Hide rain timer in safe areas, Loading screen tips, Extra tutorials, Stronger bottomless pit indicators, Show underwater shortcuts, Visual breath meter, Slug Senses, Rain timer tick-tock, Fast Map Reveals, and Threat music visual pulse. End description.)

Not all of these are accessibility options, but I will go over the ones that are.

Stronger bottomless pit indicators:
There is a shading at the bottom of an area with a bottomless pit, and this option allows you to make the gradient more visible so you don't accidentally fling yourself into the abyss.

Show underwater shortcuts:
This one can possibly be circumvented with a mod named Clear Water, but it prevents shortcuts being obscured from the dirty water.

Visual breath meter:
Exactly what it sounds like. This makes it much easier to keep an eye on your slugcat's oxygen. Instead of watching for the light (which is obscured when you get your own light), you have a visualization of how much time you have.

Slug Senses:
Shows you what creatures are out there on the map. Could be helpful, I suppose?

Fast map reveal (Not Recommended):
Supposedly makes the map show up faster. Mods are better for this.

Threat music visual pulse:
A visual pulse will come onscreen when you are near danger. I have not tested this.

Assists

(ID: A screenshot of the Quality Of Life settings in Rain World Remix. The options are as follows: Faster shelter opening, Quiter gates/shelters, Reduce screen shaking, Stronger climbing grip, Breath time leniency, Jetfish item protection, Key item tracking, Key items on passage, Scavenger kill squad leniency, Tweaked deer behaviour, No Hunter batfly auto-grabbing, No stealing Hunter back-spear. End description.)

Quality of Life (QOL) - Self Explanatory

  • Faster shelter opening
  • Quieter gates/shelters
  • Reduce screen shaking
  • No hunter batfly auto-grabbing

QOL - Extended

  • Stronger climbing grip: Prevents falling off poles while throwing objects
  • Breath time leniency: Extends your swimming time before being forced to come up for air
  • Jetfish item protection: Jetfish can't knock items from your hands
  • Key item tracking & Key items on passage: key items are tracked on the map and respawn at the last safe location if lost. The second option allows key items to come with you during passage, rather than just a swallowed item. This does not work with colored pearls, unless you are Spearmaster (presumably).
  • Scavenger kill squad leniency: there is a grace period upon a cycle starting or entering a region where scavengers will not attack.
  • Tweaked deer behavior: 'Adjusts deer's behavior' and 'adds additional mechanics to influence their actions'. Not actually totally sure what this means; I'm no Rain World expert.
  • No stealing Hunter back-spear: Scavengers cannot steal the Hunter's back-spear.

(ID: A list of the Minor Assists from Rain World Remix. All settings are listed and explained below. End description.)

Minor Assists

  • Monk extended breath: The Monk has more underwater leniency.
  • Monk extra light assistance: The Overseer will have a larger area lit when guiding the Monk in pitch darkness. However, the overseer's light is not very helpful, as it's just outlines of your surroundings.. I recommend the Glowy Slug setting of Emerald's Tweaks and Features instead. (mod can be found in Miscellaneous mods.)
  • Wiggle out of grasps: Gives you a chance to wiggle out of a grasp by mashing your movement buttons. Not always helpful.
  • No randomized cycle duration: Cycles will all last the same amount of time, and use the longest duration possible.
  • Centipede pipe protection: Centipedes let you go if you go through a pipe.

(ID: A list of the Major Assists in Rain World Remix. All settings are listed below and explained. End description.)

Major Assists:

  • No swim boost penalty: Swim boosting will not cost air.
  • Hunter settings: Exactly what they say on the tin. You can adjust the cycles that hunter will have available during their campaign. These work even after starting your campaign.
  • Slow Motion Factor: Slows game speed to assist reaction times.
  • Monk-style gates for all campaigns: Once you've gone through a gate, it will become free to pass; no karma needed.
  • Disable all Karma requirements: Gates are always free. No karma will be required.
  • Rain Timer Multiplier: Multiplies the total duration of the rain timer by whatever amount is entered.

And those are your options in Rain World Remix!
Mods: Introduction
Didn't find the thing you need in remix? Understandable! Of course the base game isn't going to have the things everyone needs, but that's where the community comes in.

I have the ambitious goal of tackling all your accessibility needs in one guide. Obviously, this will make this next part very lengthy. I have no idea if this will end up working out.

I will split these up into categories, and I will have a system that looks something like this:

Mod & mod title
Guide-Verified?: Whether I have used this mod and checked its integrity.
A overview of the mod, and what it will change. Ideally, I will go over any in-game options, and at the end, I will mention known issues that may impact your experience.

If you want to browse the mods without my help, then here's the collection! Please note that mods with known issues that can become extreme or could pose a danger to players have been excluded.

Hopefully, by the end of this, you'll have found just what you need. Godspeed!
Mods: Visibility
For those who have trouble seeing. Rain World has quite a few darker areas that may trouble you, and things that may hinder your vision. This aims to make it a bit easier for you to see things.

Guide-Verified?: No
For the modders out there, here's a mod to up your dev tool visibility.

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2928752589
Guide-Verified?: No
1.9.15 Verified?: No
Some people say the camera switches in Rain World are jarring, and if you're one of them, then this mod might be for you.
There are known issues with increased memory consumption, and this may not be for those with motion sickness.

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2923374705
MapOptions
Guide-Verified?: Yes, however, I have not tested every option.
1.9.15 Verified?: No
This is a guide containing many helpful options for your map. Its main features are zoom levels, reveal speed (and furthermore, instant reveal for your map-- no more waiting in a dangerous spot), and the ability to uncover the whole room, or even the reigon! Get your slugcat senses (and memory) upgraded.

Clear Water
Guide-Verified?: No
What it says on the tin. No more murky waters!

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2925034509
Unshaded Citadel
Guide-Verified?: Yes!
1.9.15 Verified?: No
Shaded Citadel is THE dark level of the game- but that makes it harder to see... so now, you can brighten up the background a bit.

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2965888668
Let There Be Light
Guide-Verified?: No
1.9.15 Verified?: No
Enables slugcat glow for certain arenas which are shrouded in darkness without a light source.

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2953330778
No More Flashes
Guide-Verified?: No
1.9.15 Verified?: No
Saves your eyes from flash bombs and flashing during the electric storms in The Leg! A good mod for those with epilepsy or even just sensitive eyes.

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2959346114
Brightened Items
Guide-Verified?: No
1.9.15 Verified?: No
Make items easier to see! Change their color, make them glow, have them change depending on the room; seems like you have a lot of options in this mod!
Mods: Audio
Sadly, there is not much in this section, but I feel it's important to include. No More Tinnitus has been incorporated into the game iirc; correct me if I'm wrong.

Spear Master With No ASMR
Guide-Verified: Yes!
1.9.15 Verified?: No
Spearmaster making bad noises? No more.
Mods: Controls
Ah, rain world controls. They're the bane of our existence sometimes. Get some good mods for yourself.

SimplifiedMoveset
Guide-Verified?: Yes!
1.9.15 Verified?: No
A easier experience for those who can't manage more complex moves. If you struggle with timing, this mod is brilliant. Suck at wall jumps? Wall jump option. STILL suck at wall jumps? Wall climb. Suck at swimming? Swim assist. Can't do flips? Flip assist. GET IT. It's a godsend.

Aim Anywhere
Guide-Verified?: No
1.9.15 Verified?: No
An edit to aiming controls that makes your mouse the aiming reticle. Incompatible with Aim Helper for obvious reasons.

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2955530561
Aim Helper
Guide-Verified?: Yes!
1.9.15 Verified?: Yes!
An improved Omnithrow, except this one has the ability to give you aim assist. You have the option to turn this off as well, making it just an improved omnithrow. I haven't tested the ability to see your trajectory, but there is an option for that. Good mod for those frustrated and unable to manage aiming.

Drop Button
Guide-Verified?: Yes!
1.9.15 Verified?: Yes!
Drop your stuff without the pain of having to crouch and drop. Also allows you to politely toss things if you tap the drop button while moving!
Note: It may say the vanilla binding is unbound, but the vanilla binding unfortunately will remain enabled, at least at the time of writing this.
Mods: Phobias
Rain World can be really rough for people with phobias, so this section is for those with phobias. This will likely be a shorter section, as thus far, there aren't many mods for phobias, but there is a one-size-fits-all mod for creatures and items when it comes to phobias.

Dress My Slugcat
Guide-Verified?: Yes!
1.9.15 Verified?: Yes!
You may be wondering 'hey, what is this doing here?' WELL, this is for those whose trypophobia might be triggered by Spearmaster. You can turn off their tail speckles in the 'Get Fancy' menu. Unfortunately this will not change the shelter screen for Spearmaster, but if you look below, you will see another mod for that!

Keep That Away From Me
Guide-Verified?: Yes!
1.9.15 Verified?: No
A mod for all your phobia troubles when it comes to items or creatures. You can ban... I mean, anything, really. There's even presets to turn things off or on depending on your phobias! Destroy your fears.

Emerald's Tweaks and Features
Guide-Verified?: Yes!
1.9.15 Verified?: Yes!
Features many improvements. I am going to go over the things it contains.
Quick note: This mod also includes the 'shiny spawn' and 'slugsomnia' features. You may need to disable these.
Shiny spawns can change the color of random creatures occasionally (like albino bats or garbage worms, sometimes even lizards which can be confusing. It's frequent enough that it may be annoying.)
Slugsomnia makes your slug wake up later, making the surroundings darker. I have not checked if this decreases cycle time.
You will also want to check your settings before playing, as these things are on by default, as well as other potentially hindering settings.

(ID: A screenshot of all the settings for Emerald's Tweaks And Features. All settings are listed below and explained. End image description.)

Slugcat Tweaks
  • Deep Breathing: Increases breath for all slugs while swimming.

  • No More Batgrab: Prevents slugcats from grabbing bats automatically.

  • Back Spear For All: Allows all slugcats to have a back spear. You probably want to turn this off while playing Spearmaster, as it tends to be annoying.

  • Slug Charisma: Allows you to passively gain reputation just by existing.

  • Chad Gourmand: Allows for Gourmand to throw more spears and run more. Generally causes Gourmand to exhaust less easily.

  • Violent Saint: Allows Saint to throw spears.

  • Resilient Saint: Gives Saint more health, preventing one-hit death.

  • Thick Spearmaster: Just makes spearmaster less skinny and more proportionate to their tail.

  • Winter Coat: Allows you to be in the cold without freezing until the blizzard starts.

  • Deadly Spears: Makes spears do more damage. Iirc, this may also buff Artificer's maul. However, that can be edited in the advanced settings.

Gameplay Tweaks
  • Glowy Slug: Gives you neuron glow from the beginning of the campaign.

  • Enlightened Slug: Gives you the mark of communication. This may cause bugs; please also note that once this is enabled, you will not be able to remove the mark of communication.

  • Attunement: Allows you to encounter echoes without having to go to the area twice, given that you have the required Karma.

  • Karmic Balance: Gives all slugs the basic five levels of Karma.

  • Special Spear Spawns: Allows Artificer's specialized scavenger spears to appear in any campaign.

  • Simpleflips: Gives you a miniature backflip bound to a key. I don't think it's the same backflip that you get by using the movement mechanic, unfortunately. Can be bound in the advanced menu.

  • Egg Yeet: Saint spoiler. Allows Saint to throw firebug eggs with the same force as spears.

  • Unlimited Passage: Allows you to use passages repeatedly.

  • Unrestricted Passage: Allows all Slugcats to use passages.

Creature Tweaks
  • Leech Repellent: Prevents leeches from latching on to you and dragging you down. This does not function for other creatures.

  • Respectful Worms: Garbage worms will let you keep your spears. This does not function for Scavengers.

  • Rotproof: Prevents Proto-rot from eating you. This will not work with complete forms of rot. The functionality of this feature with other creatures is not known.

  • Brave Pups: Prevents pups with low bravery from cowering and clinging onto you, potentially slowing you down.

  • Anti-Spyware: Removes the overseers. Can prevent scavengers from killing you while aiming for overseers. HOWEVER, it will also keep the overseers from assisting you.

what about the mod that makes certain bottomless pits lead to where makes sense looking at the map (like in the wall the only bottomless pit would be at the very bottom)

thank you, i was like 1 hr triying to get the spear double jump to get off the wall to five peebles, I think i can do it now without that command with some of this mods. :cozynekros:

@quijo ah, good idea! i have spearmaster pearl storage but i didn't think of it. i'll look into screen peek, too!
quijo 17 May, 2023 @ 7:00am
May I suggest Screen Peek as an alternative to SBCameraScroll, and also Spearmaster Pearl Storage for general playability? Both mods have been really good for me, I don't think I'd have finished Spearmaster without the storage mod tbh

took your suggestion, Wynter! was a much better idea than what i had set up lol-- thank you for the suggestion :rwslugcat:
