Let There Be Light

Description
I got tired of the unplayable darkness found in many of the arenas added by MSC, so I have remedied the problem. I'm not sure if the devs simply forgot to turn on glow or if they are just unreasonable; regardless, it is now fixed.

Enables neuron glow on the following arenas:
  • Side Paths
  • Void Shrine
  • Dark Tower
  • Railway
  • Decaying Construct
  • Lightning Machine
  • Substructure
  • Caustic Vats
  • Crawl Spaces
  • Muck Machine
  • Rock Bottom
  • Filtration Node
  • Submerged
No more squinting needed!

Let There Be Light? Like the Megaman Animation!?!?!?

Damn, steam's character limit is really awkward to deal with.

And yes, Decaying Construct has neuron flies. They appear after a few seconds in the arena, and can indeed be eaten for glow. I just figure people would prefer to actually fight each other and creatures in arena mode rather than spend the first several seconds scrambling around in the dark for a neuron to eat so they can start actually playing the game.

As for your second point about how the arenas reflect the regions, it's not like I'm changing the palettes to be brighter. The vast majority of time spent player the campaign will be with neuron glow since pebbles is so important in the each campaign. As such, while the regions these arenas come from are somewhat dark, they are usually explored with glow. Neuron glow does not affect how these regions are reflected in any context. Players will have glow when exploring them in the campaign anyways, so why would there be no glow in their corresponding arenas? Trying to see yourself while swimming though mud with no glow is insufferable. Trying to keep track of yourself and three others while swimming in the mud is even worse. I made no changes to the visuals other than what the player would likely have anyways in the original regions.

You are correct that these arenas don't absolutely need glow enabled. The primary reason I enabled glow in the arenas that are merely dim is because it makes multiplayer more convenient. When I'm playing arena with friends we are all looking at the same monitor, so we are spread out a bit and further away from the screen than a single person normally would be. This makes seeing what's going on rather frustrating, especially given the low contrast palettes present in many of the arenas. I am rather confused about your lantern comment. I suppose I could put a lantern outside each shelter in each arena, but this would achieve the same effect as neuron glow while feeling clumsy and restricting the number of items a player can hold. Also, why do you even bring up how to unlock lanterns? That is for sandbox mode, which I've only ever used for testing purposes. Collecting the unlock for lanterns is not required to place lanterns in an arena via its settings file.

I don't think that all of these arena need neuron glow (i am not saying you should change them as some people might like neuron glow) but i think that if you struggle to see you are meant to use a lantern (if you need help finding the unlock its in SH_B05 ) but i am sure some people will love this, i don't think any of these except filtration node or crawl spaces really need neuron glow, yes its dark but i think that is to reflect the original region and not a mistake to not include neuron glow. Also why is it enabled for Decaying Construct aren't there already neuron flies in that arena?

This mod only adds neuron glow to some select arenas which were quite dark, it has no effect on the singleplayer game. There are probably other mods which have a similar effect on the campaign however.
