You asked for it, now its finally here, Steam Wabsim.

NOTICE: this brake system is designed for use on steam locomotives. If you are looking for modern freight locomotive brakes, that can be found here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2879114743
Manual lapping brakes designed for vintage diesel locomotives is in the works, we will link it when it is done.

Steam WABSIM will work with all WABSIM rolling stock, but will disregard all the modern fru-fru.

This variant of WABSIM is designed to simulate the brakes on a steam locomotive. It has had all of it's advanced features such as reading EOTD's and combined braking effort removed, leaving only the tech that was there from the beginning. Along with making the system more primitive, the controls were also made more primitive by making the brake handles Manual lapping, meaning you have to manually change the PSI of the brakes, rather than setting the handle and having it automatically drop a certain amount. Also the compressor has been made to always be operating as long as the boiler temp is above your desired threshold.

Installation:
Most of the controls are drag and drop, you should however set the "Able to Charge MR" node up so that the boiler temp must be over a certain amount for it to turn on. Other than that its just drag and drop components and hook up the wheels to the brakes.

Operation:
first make sure your engine is operational so the brake pipe can recharge. Then set the locomotive to lead/cut in.
There are 2 handles, automatic brake and the independent brake. Independent brake only controls the engine's brakes while the automatic controls the train brake and also will apply the locomotive's brakes unless the independent brake is bailed off.

Both brake handles are manual lapping, meaning that in order to adjust the brake PSI you must push the handle into 1 of the 2 services. "Gradual release" and "quicker release". Gradual starts to increase the brakes while quicker release does so faster. Once the Equalizing resevoir is at the desired PSI for the brake application, you should move the handle to the LAP position, to hold the current PSI. From LAP you can choose to apply the brake even more or release it by pulling it back. If you shove the handle into the emergency position, the EQ will dump to zero, forcing the quickest brake application as possible.

As for operation, The same goes for the independent brake, however the independent brakes do not have an emergency application. When the Automatic brake starts to apply the independent brake, you can pull back the handle to the "Bail off" position to re-release the independent brakes.

Is it possible to adapt this for early diesel? How difficult would it be? I need non-self-lapping for one of my trains.

either or depends on your era

Is this or the auto-lapping better for steam-turbine locomotives?

However, Enzocats has made some great ones, and we have a few guys making some cool stuff that is in the works.

because i dont want to build a steam locomotive. I enjoy building diesels more because i like them more. Im not gonna have the willpower to finish something i dont wanna make.
