ULTRAKILL: V1 Voicelines (Nick) [SUBTITLES]

Description
This is an optional subtitle pack for the V1 Voicelines (Nick) addon.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS — PLEASE READ THIS
To install the subtitles, you'll need to extract them from the .vpk manually. This will take 10 minutes at most. You'll need GCFscape[nemstools.github.io]for this.
After you've downloaded GCFscape, follow the instructions below:

Locating the .vpk file and extracting subtitles
1. To locate the .vpk, you'll need to navigate to your game's installation directory

on Windows it's C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Left 4 Dead 2
on Linux it's /home/$USER/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Left 4 Dead 2

2. After entering your game's installation folder, go to: /left4dead2/addons/workshop/

3. Locate the file 2966116375.vpk
This is the file that contains the subtitles

4. Open the file. If prompted, select GCFscape as the opening method

5. Drag subtitles_english.dat from the mod's .vpk into a folder of your choice, preferrably the desktop

Making a backup of default subtitles and disabling dlc1 subtitles

6. After performing steps 1-5, go to /left4dead2/resource/, and locate subtitles_english.dat

7. Rename subtitles_english.dat to subtitles_english.dat_old (or any extension of choice, just make sure it's not .dat)

8. Do the same to the subtitles_english.dat in /left4dead2_dlc1/resource/ in order to disable subtitles from the Passing DLC
(You have to do this, because for some reason you just canNOT replace the Passing subtitles, believe me, I tried, it's not possible, so the only option is to just disable them, and as such, they won't appear in game)

9. After performing all of the steps above, simply drag the subtitles_english.dat from the mod into the /left4dead2/resource/ directory

you can leave them alone, the mod's files replace only the base subtitles if i recall correctly.
if i remembered wrong and there ARE subtitles for the other DLCs in the mod then you can replace those, but otherwise just leave them alone

i haven't played l4d2 in a while so i'm not sure if there are any other instances of subtitles_english.dat (like in some other directories or whatnot), but if there are then you can just leave them alone

you need to replace the subtitles_english.dat file in the /left4dead2/resource/ directory with the mod's subtitles_english.dat.

if you do just that you'll have the modded subtitles for the base game and the regular subtitles for the Passing DLC, which don't match up with the voicelines from the mod.

unfortunately modding the Passing subtitles is impossible for some reason, so in the readme I just wrote that you should delete the subtitles_english.dat in the /left4dead2_dlc1/resource/ directory.

this will cause the passing voicelines to simply not have subtitles. if you need subtitles you can just not delete the file in the DLC directory.

Yes, I meant the passing DLC. Btw, do I only need to replace the Passing DLC ones, or all others too???

what do you mean exactly by "story subtitles"?
it could be that you mean the subtitles from the Passing DLC, and those don't work because it's for some reason impossible to mod them, so I included a step in the instructions to just disable them.
if you mean the subtitles in general it might be some sort of mod conflict or something - in any case it's not really within my abilities to really answer that as the issue wouldn't stem from my mod.
if it's a mod conflict, disable all mods, and then enable them one by one to see which one screws up the subtitles.
